Audio Visual (AV) Technician
Position Summary

The Audio Visual (AV) Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and dismantling of audio visual equipment for conferences, meetings, corporate events, weddings, concerts, and other live productions. The role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure while delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, install, test, and operate audio visual equipment including sound systems, LED screens, projectors, lighting systems, microphones, video switchers, cameras, and mixing consoles.
  • Assemble and configure AV equipment prior to events to ensure all systems function correctly.
  • Route and manage audio, video, power, and network cabling safely and neatly.
  • Perform sound checks, video tests, and equipment calibration before each event.
  • Coordinate with event organizers, clients, presenters, entertainers, and venue staff to understand technical requirements.
  • Upload and test presentation materials, videos, and multimedia content before events.
  • Monitor AV systems throughout events and respond immediately to technical issues.
  • Adjust audio levels, lighting, and video sources during live events to ensure seamless production.
  • Replace batteries, troubleshoot wireless systems, and perform on-the-spot repairs with minimal disruption.
  • Dismantle, pack, transport, and safely store AV equipment after events.
  • Perform routine maintenance including equipment cleaning, firmware updates, inventory checks, and reporting of damaged equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is handled safely and maintained in excellent working condition.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory and assist with stock control.
  • Adhere to workplace safety procedures and ensure cables and equipment are installed safely to minimize hazards.
  • Support multiple events in a single day, adapting to changing schedules and different venues.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent experience in Audio Visual Technology, Electronics, Event Production, or related field.
  • Experience operating professional audio, lighting, and video equipment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of audio signal flow, lighting systems, LED displays, projectors, and networking is an advantage.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office and presentation software.
  • Valid driving licence is an advantage.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit and able to lift, carry, load, and unload heavy AV equipment such as speakers, LED panels, flight cases, trusses, projectors, and staging components.
  • Comfortable lifting equipment weighing up to 25–30 kg, with team lifting used for heavier items.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and work at heights when installing equipment.
  • Capable of working long hours during event setup, operation, and dismantling.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible working hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays based on event schedules.
  • Frequent travel between hotels, convention centres, event venues, and client locations.
  • Work may be indoors or outdoors under varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to manage multiple events and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high service standards.
