Commis Chef (Pastry)

Job Summary

The Commis Chef (Pastry) assists in the preparation, production and presentation of pastries, desserts, breads, cakes and other baked goods in accordance with hotel standards. The role supports the Pastry Chef in maintaining product quality, consistency, hygiene and efficient kitchen operations while ensuring guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, cakes, breads, desserts and other bakery items according to established recipes and standards.
• Prepare ingredients, measure portions accurately and ensure proper food handling procedures.
• Support daily pastry kitchen operations to ensure timely production and service.
• Maintain consistency in taste, quality and presentation of all pastry products.
• Monitor stock levels and assist in inventory control and ordering requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, equipment and storage areas.
• Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, sanitation and workplace safety regulations.
• Assist with buffet setups, special events, banquets and festive promotions as required.
• Work collaboratively with the culinary team to achieve departmental goals and guest satisfaction.

Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts, Pastry & Bakery, Hospitality or a related field.
• Previous experience in a pastry kitchen, bakery, hotel or restaurant is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of baking techniques, dessert preparation and pastry production.
• Familiarity with food hygiene and safety standards.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment and meet production deadlines.
• Good teamwork, communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
