Electrical Engineer (Substation Projects)

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to support the design, execution, testing, and commissioning of substation projects in Johor. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all electrical systems and works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for an engineer with strong experience in high-voltage (HV/EHV) substation projects, preferably within utility, EPC, or infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Support
- Support detailed design and engineering activities for substation projects (AIS/GIS systems).
- Review electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams (SLD), and technical specifications.
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, project requirements, and international codes.
- Coordinate with design consultants and engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
Project Execution
- Assist in planning and execution of electrical works on-site.
- Monitor installation of primary and secondary equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and control systems.
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings and method statements.
- Support site supervision and coordinate with contractors and subcontractors.
Testing & Commissioning
- Participate in testing and commissioning activities for substation systems.
- Review and witness functional tests, insulation tests, relay testing, and system integration.
- Ensure all commissioning activities meet safety and performance standards.
- Assist in energization planning and execution.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all electrical works comply with safety standards, local regulations, and utility requirements.
- Support QA/QC processes, inspections, and documentation.
- Identify and resolve technical non-conformances.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and utility authorities.
- Attend technical and site coordination meetings.
- Provide technical support and updates to project management teams.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, site progress updates, and commissioning documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of drawings, test results, and project changes.
- Support handover documentation and as-built submissions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 3–8 years of experience in electrical engineering within substation, T&D, or power infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of HV/EHV substation systems (AIS/GIS preferred).
- Familiarity with protection and control systems, SCADA, transformers, and switchgear.
- Understanding of industry standards and utility requirements (e.g., IEC, IEEE, TNB standards).
- Experience in testing and commissioning of substation equipment is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a site-based, fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on 132kV, 275kV, or 500kV substation projects.
- Exposure to EPC or utility-led projects.
- Knowledge of TNB requirements and procedures is an advantage.
- Willingness to work on-site in Johor.
