Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Timber Worker is responsible for handling, cutting, sorting, and preparing timber for production, storage, or delivery. This role involves working in a yard, sawmill, or processing environment and requires attention to detail, physical strength, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, unload, and stack logs and timber products safely.
Operate machinery such as saws, forklifts, planers, and grading equipment.
Measure, cut, and shape timber according to specifications and orders.
Sort and grade timber by size, species, and quality standards.
Prepare timber for shipment, including bundling, labeling, and loading.
Maintain equipment and tools, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
Assist with stock control and recordkeeping as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior experience in a timber yard, sawmill, or construction environment is an asset.
Ability to operate or learn to operate timber-handling machinery and tools.
Strong physical fitness — able to lift and move heavy materials safely.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Basic math and measurement skills.
Commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency.
Working Conditions
Work performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
Exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery.
Requires wearing personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, boots, hearing protection).
May involve early starts or shift work, depending on production schedules.
