Overall
- To provide an evidence-based physiotherapy (PT) / occupational therapy (OT) service to palliative care patients in their home or in Hospis Malaysia focusing on adaptation and rehabilitation.
- To assist in the development and evaluation of the PT / OT service.
- To work autonomously with clinical team to contribute to exemplary care for patients and their families.
- To be a resource and support to other the clinical team by offering PT / OT knowledge and skills.
Key responsibilities
Clinical
- As part of the multi-professional team, contribute to the holistic assessment of patients and their carers in the home or in Hospice Malaysia and develop a holistic management plan
- To undertake PT assessment, addressing the patient’s physical, psychological and functional skills.
- Identify the abilities and needs for patients and carers plan, implement and evaluate the care provided.
- Help patient identify their goals and plan treatment accordingly
- Provide Specific interventions for anxiety, breathlessness and fatigue
- Work with Occupational Therapy to assess need for equipment and provide teaching on use of equipment
- Communicate clearly and sensitively with patients and carers
- Maintain a high standard of documentation of clinical assessment and interventions in the patients notes
Others
- Develop daycare / outpatient activities
- Teach the clinical team to provide simple physiotherapy / occupational therapy interventions
- Provide Education on the role of physiotherapy / occupational therapy in palliative care to attachment students and doctors.
- Participate in the audit of clinical care.
- Remain up-to-date on developments nationally and internationally in physiotherapy / occupational therapy related to palliative
Requirements
- Qualification & License
- Degree in Physiotherapy with valid professional registration
- Clinical Experience
Experience in rehabilitation / patient care (palliative care is a plus)Able to assess patient physical and functional conditions, and develop personalised treatment plansManage mobility, fatigue, breathlessness, and functional limitationsKnowledge of basic assistive equipment and rehabilitation techniquesStrong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with patients and caregiversAble to guide and educate patients on therapy and exercisesWork effectively in a multidisciplinary team (doctors, nurses, OT)Maintain proper patient records and follow clinical standardsWilling to continuously learn and stay updated
