The opportunity
Vertical Institute has trained over 50,000 professionals across B2C and B2B corporate programmes. That scale and breadth means the finance function here is genuinely interesting - you will work across a full set of accounts, multiple revenue streams, grants administration, and tax compliance in a fast-moving environment that most Senior Accountant roles simply cannot offer.
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a lean, high-calibre finance team reporting directly to the Head of Finance. You will take end-to-end ownership of the accounting function - from month-end close and revenue recognition through to audit preparation and grant compliance - and play a meaningful role in building the financial infrastructure that supports the company's next stage of growth.
Candidates from Big Four or mid-tier public accounting firms who are ready to make the move into industry are strongly encouraged to apply. The technical breadth here - full-set accounts, revenue reconciliation across multiple platforms, grants compliance, and statutory reporting - is meaningfully more substantive than most first industry roles at this level.
What you will own
Financial accounting and reporting
- Own the full set of accounts: general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, right-of-use assets, and bank reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close with accuracy and on time - management accounts, balance sheet schedules, and supporting reconciliations done to a standard the Head of Finance and CEO can rely on.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition across deferred revenue, contract liabilities, and multiple income streams.
- Reconcile revenue across CRM, learning management systems, payment gateways, and accounting platforms - keeping all systems in agreement.
- Prepare financial reports and analysis that support management decision-making, not just historical summaries.
Compliance, audit, and tax
- Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors through the full statutory audit cycle.
- Support preparation and filing of GST returns, Estimated Chargeable Income, and corporate tax submissions in compliance with IRAS requirements.
- Maintain accounting documentation and audit-ready records that hold up under scrutiny - for statutory audits and government programme reviews alike.
- Ensure full compliance with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards and internal financial policies.
Government grants and funding compliance
- Oversee financial administration and claims processing for government-funded programmes, ensuring submissions are accurate, supported, and on time.
- Maintain compliance with SSG funding requirements and the documentation standards required for grant audits.
- Support grant compliance reviews and funding-related queries, drawing on a thorough understanding of programme structures and funding conditions.
Finance operations and process improvement
- Manage day-to-day finance operations: vendor payments, learner fee collections, employee expense claims, and payroll reconciliation.
- Review and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and finance SOPs - building the kind of rigour that makes audits straightforward.
- Identify automation opportunities and drive improvements in reporting efficiency, particularly within Xero and connected workflow tools.
What we look for
We are looking for someone with strong technical foundations who takes genuine pride in the accuracy and completeness of their work. Beyond that:
- Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline. ACCA, CPA, CA Singapore, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- 4 to 7 years of accounting experience, ideally combining audit and commercial finance exposure.
- Strong technical grounding in SFRS, GST, revenue recognition, and accrual accounting - you understand the standards, not just the entries.
- Proven experience managing full-set accounts and month-end close independently, without needing to be walked through the process.
- Familiarity with government grants or SkillsFuture funding frameworks is a meaningful differentiator.
- Hands-on with Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or equivalent, and strong in Excel for reporting and reconciliation work.
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple deadlines in a lean team where accuracy is non-negotiable.
Why this role
Technical breadth
- Full-set accounts, multi-platform revenue reconciliation, grants compliance, and statutory reporting - all in one role. Most Senior Accountant positions offer a fraction of this scope.
Strong leadership above you
- Your direct manager is a Head of Finance with a Big Four background.
Real ownership
- You own the accounting function, not a slice of it. In a lean team, your work matters and your contribution is visible to senior leadership from day one.
A platform to grow
- Fast-growing company, high standards, and a clear progression path. Centrally located at the Lifelong Learning Institute, Paya Lebar.
