Job Description

Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities:

Optical Design & Development

  • Participate to design, simulate, and develop optical circuits, modules, and systems for SICK products, including sensors and industrial solutions.
  • Perform optical modeling and analysis (e.g., ray tracing, tolerancing, stray light analysis) to ensure optimal performance and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electronics, mechanical, firmware) to integrate optical subsystems into complete product designs.


Verification, Testing & Validation

  • Define and support to execute optical test plans, procedures, and validation protocols to verify product performance against specifications.
  • Analyze measurement data and ensure compliance with quality, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design or process issues.


Product Lifecycle Management & Support

  • Support product lifecycle activities, including troubleshooting field issues, failure analysis, and product improvements.
  • Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve technical issues and enhance yield and robustness.
  • Coordinate certification and compliance activities (e.g., safety, environmental, industry standards) related to optical systems.


Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in Optical Engineering, Engineering Optics or equivalent.
  • Open to candidates not based in Singapore
  • At least 1-2 years in a Research and Development Role.
  • Basic understanding of Sensor technology.
  • Basic understanding of IEC/ISO standards (IEC 62471 / IEC 60825).
  • Good understanding of first order ray tracing technique.
  • Perform non-design related simulation task using Optical simulation tool such as Zemax.
  • Generate optical lens drawing following by requirement.
  • Basic understanding of basic sensor testing methodology.
  • Basic understanding of tools for optical testing.
  • Basic understanding of equipment for optical testing.
  • Translate requirements into test plan.
  • Characterize optical component for cost saving.
  • Provide Statistical Analysis on critical parameters.
  • Identify SPC for Final Test and Quality Checks.
  • Provide the benchmarking steps / methods and interpret the result.


Identify / derive good practices.

  • Good understanding of DFMEA.
  • Good Failure Analysis approach.
  • Be responsible and take ownership on assigned tasks.
  • Growth mindset to acquire new technical competencies
