Our client is the corporate venture investment platform of one of Singapore’s leading listed deep tech groups. The platform invests in and partners with high-
potential deep technology and frontier technology companies, combining institutional investment discipline with the strategic advantages of a large corporate group, including access to industry relationships, operating capabilities, market access, technical expertise, commercial partnerships and long-term strategic capital.
The platform is focused on identifying and backing companies with the potential to shape future growth and innovation across sectors relevant to the Group’s long-term priorities. These may include advanced manufacturing, robotics and automation, industrial AI, enterprise and infrastructure software, semiconductors, climate and energy technologies, medtech, biotech tools, materials science, mobility and other deep tech domains where technical differentiation and strategic relevance matter.
The platform’s mandate is twofold: to generate strong financial returns through disciplined venture investing, and to create strategic value for the broader Group by identifying technologies, companies and partnerships that can strengthen long-term competitive advantage, unlock new adjacencies and support innovation across the enterprise.
As part of its next phase of growth, the platform is seeking to appoint a Venture Partner to help source and evaluate investment opportunities, support portfolio companies, strengthen ecosystem connectivity and contribute to strategic value creation across the investment portfolio.
The Opportunity
This is a senior role for an experienced investor, founder, operator or sector specialist with strong judgment, a high-quality network and deep credibility in one or more relevant technology sectors.
The Venture Partner will play an important role in helping the platform identify exceptional founders and differentiated technologies early, assess both investment quality and strategic relevance, and convert venture opportunities into meaningful commercial and strategic outcomes for the Group.
The role is well suited to someone who brings the mindset of an investor, the instincts of an operator and the credibility of a sector insider. The successful candidate should be equally comfortable in founder conversations, investment discussions, technical or commercial diligence, portfolio problem-solving and senior stakeholder engagement across a corporate environment.
The Venture Partner will work closely with the platform’s leadership, investment team, portfolio founders, co-investors and senior stakeholders across the broader Group. Depending on the candidate’s background, the role may be weighted toward particular sectors, themes, stages or strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Source high-quality venture investment opportunities aligned with the platform’s investment mandate and the Group’s strategic priorities.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of proprietary and relationship-driven opportunities across deep tech, frontier technology and innovation-led sectors.
- Develop and deepen relationships with founders, repeat entrepreneurs, research institutions, universities, venture funds, accelerators, incubators, family offices, corporate innovation teams and other ecosystem stakeholders.
- Identify emerging technology themes, market inflection points and innovation white spaces relevant to the platform’s investment focus.
- Maintain strong visibility across Singapore, Southeast Asia and relevant global innovation ecosystems in order to surface differentiated companies before they become broadly marketed.
- Evaluate investment opportunities across dimensions such as founding team quality, technology defensibility, product maturity, commercial traction, market size, business model strength, capital intensity, scaling risk, competitive positioning and strategic relevance to the Group.
- Lead or support commercial, strategic and market diligence on potential investments, including founder referencing, customer and partner referencing, market mapping, competitor analysis, business model assessment and go-to-market evaluation.
- Work with internal and external subject matter experts to assess technical feasibility, engineering maturity, product readiness, regulatory pathways, manufacturing readiness, deployment complexity and other deep tech diligence questions where relevant.
- Develop clear investment views on prospective opportunities and articulate conviction, upside cases, risks and mitigation plans in a structured and commercially rigorous manner.
- Prepare high-quality investment materials including screening memoranda, investment papers, market theses, sector analyses, portfolio updates and recommendations for internal decision-making.
- Participate actively in investment committee discussions and contribute to investment decisions through sound judgment, clear analysis and balanced risk assessment.
- Support the structuring and execution of transactions, including syndicate discussions, term sheet input, investor coordination and engagement with legal, finance and compliance stakeholders as required.
- Assess how prospective investments can create strategic value for the broader Group, beyond purely financial return potential.
- Identify opportunities for portfolio companies or pipeline companies to engage with the Group through pilots, proof-of-concepts, commercial partnerships, distribution arrangements, industrial collaborations, technical validation, market access support, manufacturing partnerships or other strategic initiatives.
- Work closely with business units and senior stakeholders across the Group to understand strategic priorities and map relevant startup capabilities, technologies and partnership opportunities against those needs.
- Act as a bridge between founders and corporate stakeholders, helping both sides navigate timelines, expectations, incentives and practical constraints in a way that supports long-term value creation.
- Support portfolio companies and leadership teams on matters such as fundraising strategy, business development, market entry, strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, hiring, product positioning, commercialization and scaling priorities where relevant.
- Introduce portfolio companies to relevant investors, customers, distribution partners, technical experts, corporate stakeholders and potential strategic collaborators.
- Help portfolio companies navigate engagement with large enterprises and industrial or regulated customers, particularly where credibility, access and execution support can accelerate adoption.
- Monitor portfolio developments and contribute to portfolio reviews, follow-on investment discussions, strategic updates and risk assessments.
- Where appropriate, represent the platform in an advisory, observer or board-support capacity for selected portfolio companies.
- Contribute to the platform’s investment strategy, market positioning and thematic development by sharing sector insights, pattern recognition and market intelligence.
- Build the platform’s visibility and reputation in the venture and deep tech ecosystem through ecosystem engagement, thought leadership, founder relationships and high-quality market presence.
- Strengthen relationships with co-investors, venture firms, institutional investors, corporate venture teams, research institutions, government-linked ecosystem partners and strategic operators relevant to the platform’s focus areas.
- Help position the platform as a value-added partner of choice for founders who want more than capital and who can benefit from access to a serious strategic platform in Asia.
- Support internal reporting, governance and stakeholder communications in line with the expectations of a venture platform operating within a listed corporate group.
- Operate with strong judgment, discretion and professionalism in relation to confidential information, conflicts, governance standards and reputational considerations.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate is likely to bring significant experience in venture capital, growth investing, startup operating leadership, corporate venture, strategic partnerships, venture building, innovation leadership or a related field. The platform is open to candidates from both investing and operating backgrounds, provided they can demonstrate strong commercial judgment, deep ecosystem connectivity and the ability to engage credibly with founders and senior stakeholders alike.
Candidates should have a strong understanding of startup financing, venture dynamics, fundraising processes and the key drivers of venture-scale company building.
