Role Overview:
The Manager, Risk Policy is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously enhancing credit and risk policies that govern the digital lending lifecycle. Reporting to the Head, Financial Risk, this role ensures that lending practices are aligned with risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and portfolio performance objectives.
The role bridges risk strategy, business growth, and operational execution, translating risk insights into practical policies across underwriting, portfolio management, and collections. The incumbent will also play a critical role in policy optimisation using data analytics and AI-driven insights, ensuring scalable and sustainable lending growth.
What You'll Do:
1. Risk Policy Design & Governance
- Develop and maintain end-to-end credit risk policies, covering:
- Customer eligibility and underwriting criteria
- Credit limits, pricing, and approval rules
- Portfolio management guidelines (line management, repricing)
- Collections and recovery strategies
- Ensure policies are clearly documented, structured, and consistently applied across the business
- Establish governance processes for policy approval, review, and change management
2. Risk Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Translate risk appetite into actionable policy thresholds and decision rules
- Monitor portfolio performance and recommend policy adjustments to:
- Optimise approval rates vs. credit losses
- Manage delinquency and default trends
- Conduct segmentation analysis (customer risk tiers, behavioural trends) to refine policy strategies
- Partner with Risk Modeler and Risk Analytics teams to ensure policy reflects model outputs and insights
3. Policy Optimisation (Data-Driven & AI-Enabled)
- Leverage data analytics and model outputs to:
- Identify opportunities to enhance approval strategy and pricing
- Improve credit quality and profitability
- Work with Data Science and Product teams to embed:
- Decision rules engines
- AI/ML-driven credit decision frameworks
- Continuously test and refine policies through experimentation (e.g., champion/challenger approaches)
4. Implementation & Operational Alignment
- Translate policies into executable rules within systems and operational workflows
- Work closely with:
- Operations (verification, call centre, collections)
- Product and Technology (rule engines, system configuration)
- Ensure policies are:
- Operationally feasible
- Clearly understood by execution teams
- Support rollout of new products or changes in lending strategies
5. Risk Governance & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulatory expectations
- Responsible lending practices and fair treatment of customers
- Internal risk governance frameworks
- Support internal audits, regulatory reviews, and policy documentation requirements
- Maintain audit-ready documentation, including policy rationale, changes, and impact assessments
6. Collections & Recovery Policy Oversight
- Define strategy and policy for collections across delinquency stages
- Ensure alignment between:
- Risk appetite
- Customer fairness principles
- Regulatory expectations
- Optimise recovery outcomes through segmentation and strategy differentiation
7. Stakeholder Management & Advisory
- Act as a key advisor to:
- Business and Product teams on risk implications of growth strategies
- Operations teams on policy interpretation and execution
- Facilitate alignment between Risk, Business, and Technology on policy changes
- Communicate policy changes clearly to stakeholders, including rationale and expected impact
Role Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Finance, Economics, Business, Statistics, or related disciplines
- Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) are an advantage
Experience
- 6–10+ years of experience in:
- Credit risk policy, risk strategy, or portfolio management
- Banking, digital lending, or FinTech environment
- Proven track record in:
- Designing and implementing credit policies
- Managing portfolio performance and risk trade-offs
- Familiarity with Malaysian regulatory landscape (BNM) and responsible lending principles
Technical & Functional Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Credit lifecycle (origination → servicing → collections)
- Risk-adjusted decisioning (approval, pricing, limits)
- Experience working with:
- Risk models and scorecards
- Decision engines / rule-based systems
- Proficiency in data analysis (SQL, Excel; Python is a plus)
Analytical & Strategic Thinking
- Strong ability to:
- Translate data insights into actionable policies
- Balance growth, profitability, and risk exposure
- Structured problem-solving with attention to detail
