Job Title: Assistant Chef

Location: Tampoi, Johor Bahru

Cuisine Type: Indian & Western Fusion

Job Summary

The Assistant Chef will support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation and maintaining strict hygiene and SOP standards. The role requires basic cooking skills across Indian and Western cuisines such as pasta, pizza, burgers, and tandoori dishes, along with an understanding of kitchen costing and inventory control.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Preparation & Cooking

* Assist the Head Chef in preparing and cooking menu items (e.g., pasta, pizza, burgers, tandoori chicken, etc.)

* Ensure consistency in taste, portioning, and presentation

* Follow recipes and instructions accurately

2. Kitchen Operations Support

* Prepare ingredients (cutting, marinating, portioning, etc.)

* Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly used and maintained

* Support smooth daily kitchen workflow

3. Hygiene & Safety

* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen at all times

* Follow food safety standards and hygiene practices (e.g., proper storage, handling, and sanitation)

* Comply with company SOPs and local health regulations

4. SOP Compliance

* Adhere strictly to the cafe’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

* Ensure all processes are followed consistently during food preparation and service

5. Cost Control & Inventory

* Assist in monitoring food portioning to control wastage

* Support stock checking and inventory management

* Be aware of basic costing principles to maintain food cost targets

6. Team Collaboration

* Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team

* Communicate effectively to ensure timely food preparation

* Be willing to learn and improve skills continuously

Requirements

* Basic knowledge of cooking (Indian & Western cuisine preferred)

* Experience in a kitchen environment is an advantage

* Understanding of hygiene and food safety standards

* Ability to follow instructions and SOPs

* Team player with a positive attitude

* Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment

Additional Notes

* Training will be provided where necessary

* Must be required to work on with weekends and public holidays

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: RM2,000.00 - RM2,500.00 per month
