Job Description

Responsibilities

About my client
My client is a proprietary trading firm that designs and implements its own trading systems and strategies to deliver liquidity across demanding and fast-evolving markets. The firm is committed to pushing boundaries in decentralized finance and is looking for like-minded builders.

The Role
My client is seeking an Engineering Lead to lead the core platform and trading infrastructure engineering team responsible for building next-generation low-latency trading infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you own end-to-end architecture and delivery of high-performance trading systems, combining deep low-latency expertise from traditional high-frequency trading with the demands of on-chain trading environments.

You will directly manage and mentor a team of elite software engineers, DevOps, and architects—while staying actively involved in architecture, critical implementation, and performance optimization. The ideal candidate has built and scaled low-latency trading systems in highly demanding environments and has a strong point of view on how modern trading infrastructure should be designed and operated.

Responsibilities
  • Lead greenfield design and implementation of a high-performance, low-latency trading platform that supports both off-chain and on-chain trading needs.
  • Write, review, and own critical code; make architectural decisions; personally resolve complex latency and performance problems; and drive redesigns to improve workflows, tooling, and delivery.
  • Manage, mentor, and coach engineers (including junior and mid-level) through 1:1s, feedback, and career development; foster a high-trust engineering culture.
  • Define clear timelines, manage dependencies across components, track progress, and ensure high-quality delivery across the full trading stack.
  • Maintain strong understanding across the trading infrastructure lifecycle—from market data ingestion through execution and risk systems—and effectively manage specialists working on different layers.
  • Drive continuous optimization for latency, throughput, reliability, and scalability in a competitive environment; monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with trading, research, risk, and business stakeholders to ensure technical solutions directly support trading strategies and requirements.
  • Establish and enforce best practices across testing, CI/CD, monitoring, incident response, and post-incident learnings to minimize downtime.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in technical leadership roles within trading or similarly high-stakes, low-latency environments.
  • Proven hands-on experience building or optimizing high-performance trading systems in elite trading contexts (traditional HFT and/or other high-frequency markets).
  • Demonstrated ability to build production low-latency systems using languages such as C++, Rust, or similar.
  • Track record of managing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams in fast-moving environments, with effective hiring/interviewing/onboarding as needed.
  • Solid grasp of how trading infrastructure fits together (market data, execution, risk, and related components), plus experience leading engineers across specialized areas.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage timelines, and drive complex technical programs to completion.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions under ambiguity and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What the Firm Offers:
  • Collaborative, intellectually driven culture.
  • Healthy work-life balance with reasonable hours.
  • Free breakfast and lunch, gym reimbursement, social events.
  • Private healthcare, education assistance, and corporate discounts.
  • Flat hierarchy
