Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a visionary and experienced Head Chef to anchor our kitchen and lead the culinary direction of our growing plant-based food establishment in Malaysia. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Culinary Leadership & Menu Development

  • Conceptualise, design, and continuously evolve a seasonal vegan menu that reflects innovation, nutrition, and cultural authenticity
  • Incorporate local culinary traditions and plant-based techniques to create distinctive, memorable dishes
  • Collaborate with management on themed menus, promotional offerings, and business-driven culinary strategy

Kitchen Operations & Quality Control

  • Oversee all aspects of daily kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality and consistency across every service
  • Establish and maintain rigorous standards for food preparation, plating, and presentation
  • Implement and uphold food hygiene, safety, and sanitation protocols in full compliance with Malaysian regulations

Team Management & Development

  • Lead, inspire, and manage a kitchen team — recruiting, onboarding, training, and mentoring staff at all levels
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance kitchen culture grounded in respect and continuous learning
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to develop team capability

Inventory, Costing & Supplier Relations

  • Manage kitchen inventory, ordering, and stock control to minimise waste and ensure freshness
  • Negotiate with and manage relationships with suppliers to source quality plant-based ingredients at optimal cost
  • Monitor and control food costs, portion sizes, and wastage in line with financial targets

REQUIREMENTS

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef, with a strong portfolio in vegan, plant-based, or health-conscious cuisine
  • Formal culinary training (diploma, degree, or equivalent professional qualification) is an advantage, though candidates with strong hands-on industry experience are equally welcome to apply
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute menus in a commercial kitchen environment

Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep familiarity with Local culinary culture, ingredients, and cooking traditions — a strong advantage
  • Comprehensive understanding of vegan nutrition, whole-food plant-based cooking techniques, and ingredient functionality
  • Strong leadership, delegation, and team management abilities
  • Sound financial acumen — food costing, inventory control, and supplier negotiation
  • Working knowledge of Malaysian food safety standards and hygiene regulations (or willingness to obtain certification)

Personal Attributes

  • Genuine passion for vegan and health-conscious cooking, with a commitment to quality and creativity
  • Adaptable, hands-on, and resilient under the pressures of a dynamic kitchen environment
  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead diverse teams effectively
  • Proficient in English and Mandarin — preferred

Pay: From RM4,000.00 per month
