Scope
Role Summary:
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial health, integrity, and performance of the company in Malaysia (subsidiaries and related companies). This role ensures robust financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance, and strategic financial planning to support business growth and sustainability. The position combines operational finance leadership with strategic advisory responsibilities, ensuring profitability, liquidity, and long-term financial stability of the organization
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
· Oversee end-to-end accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, and reconciliations.
· Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
· Prepare and present consolidated financial statements across group entities.
· Drive month-end and year-end closing processes within defined timelines.
· Develop high-quality MIS reports including budget variance and performance dashboards.
· Lead entity-wide budgeting and forecasting processes.
· Monitor financial performance against budgets and analyze variances.
· Ensure accurate cost allocations and expense tracking.
· Drive profitability analysis across business units and recommend improvements.
· Establish and maintain robust internal financial controls and governance frameworks.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
· Manage external audits and ensure audit readiness.
· Implement segregation of duties and risk mitigation controls.
Treasury, Cash Flow & Risk Management· Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and working capital optimization.
· Oversee banking relationships and financing arrangements.
· Forecast financial requirements and funding needs.
· Manage insurance policies and financial risk mitigation strategies.
Group Consolidation & Strategic Insight· Consolidate financial results across entities and provide group-level insights.
· Identify operational efficiencies and cost optimization opportunities.
· Support strategic decision-making with financial analysis and recommendations.
Taxation & Regulatory Compliance· Oversee tax planning, filings, and compliance across jurisdictions.
· Liaise with tax authorities and ensure adherence to direct and indirect tax regulations.
· Provide strategic tax optimization recommendations.
· Lead implementation and enhancement of ERP and financial systems.
· Automate financial processes and reporting.
· Drive continuous improvement in finance processes and controls.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management· Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
· Build strong relationships with stakeholders including auditors, banks, and regulators.
· Act as a key financial advisor to executive leadership.
· Ensure effective communication of financial performance to stakeholders.
Cross border tax (AD/ CVD)· Basic understanding of AD/ CVD functions across multiple countries, especially USA & Canada.
· Handle the US ADT review along with the lawyer
· Maintain the record and cost sheets to ensure the DOC review is handled smoothly
· Assist in submission of review questionnaire to the department on time
Costing and management accounting· Support to costing department, whenever is needed for the below.
a. Participate in tenders
b. Bid pricing finalization
c. Tail-end cost structure mapping for competitive pricing
d. Understanding of various Inco Term & incorporate the same in the cost table along with tariff application
e. Dashboard presentation
Key Relationships:
· Business Unit Heads and cross functional team members
· External Auditors, Tax Advisors & Co. Sec’s
· Banks
· Regulatory Authorities – IRBM, BNM, RMCD, DOSA etc.
· Timely closure of monthly accounts.
· Accuracy of financial reporting and zero major audit findings.
· Budget vs actual variance management within acceptable thresholds.
· Improvement in cash flow and working capital metrics.
· Successful ERP & process improvements.
· Compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Experience
Essential
Skills & Competencies
· Bachelor’s or Master’s in finance, Accounting, or related field. Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, or equivalent qualification are preferred.
· 10–15+ years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
· Experience in financial control and consolidation.
· Strong knowledge of IFRS, MPERS, taxation, and compliance frameworks.
· Experience with ERP systems (SAP, MS Dynamics etc..) and financial modelling tools.
· Experience in manufacturing or packaging industries is an advantage.
· Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
· Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems.
· Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
· High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
