Temporary Snake Rescue Project Assistant (Projects Section)
Period: June-November 2026
Job Summary
The Wild Snake Rescue Project commenced on 2 August 1999 to help to mitigate snake conflicts in the community. After being received and individually checked, all healthy, native snakes are released back to nature. The Fauna Conservation Department is looking for an experienced snake handler to work with the KFBG team and provide a snake release and handling service during the period June-November 2026 as follows:
Release of healthy, native snakes back to nature into appropriate habitat away from human habitation.
Assist with snake handling and inspection as needed.
Snake release trips or handling events will be spaced between June to November, timings dependent on the number of snakes received through the Wild Snake Rescue Project each week and operational needs with a maximum of 12 release or handling events.
Follow all safety procedures linked to the project.
Provide release site information to KFBG staff after each release trip.
Job Requirements
Commitment to the mission, vision and values of KFBGC.
Must be a Hong Kong Police registered snake handler.
Must have a recognised history of snake handling that demonstrates safe handling and transport of snakes and correct use of safety tools.
Must demonstrate knowledge of habitat requirements for Hong Kong’s native snake species.
Must be capable to work independently.
Physically fit to work in an outdoor environment and in adverse weather.
Honest, responsible and friendly.
Must have own transport.
Vehicular access to country parks an advantage.
