Job Description
As an Underwriting Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
- Take the lead in shaping underwriting strategy and managing risk exposure across a diverse general insurance portfolio
- Underwrite and grow Motor, P&C, and A&H business with a strong focus on profitability and portfolio quality
- Play a key role in reinsurance treaty renewals, including analysis, wording review, and negotiation support
- Handle a broad mix of direct business, qualitative placements, and inward treaty reinsurance
- Contribute to product innovation, enhancement, and portfolio optimisation through market and customer insights
- Monitor portfolio performance, premium production, and credit exposure to ensure targets and controls are met
- Work closely with clients, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders to support business growth
- Partner with senior management to develop underwriting and business strategies
- Support operational excellence by improving processes, systems, and service delivery
- Mentor and develop team members, helping to build a strong and capable underwriting function
The Successful Applicant A successful Underwriting Manager should have:
- Degree holder in Insurance or a related discipline, with professional qualifications such as ANZIIF (Senior Associate / Fellow), CIP, or equivalent preferred
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in underwriting, reinsurance, and client servicing, including at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity
- A mature, self-directed professional with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Demonstrates a proactive, decisive, and results-oriented approach to work
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Cantonese; working knowledge of Mandarin is required
