About the role

We are seeking a First Article Inspection Technician to join Newbillion Precision Metal Sdn Bhd in Batu Kawan, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a critical role in our manufacturing and assembly operations. As a First Article Inspection Technician, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive inspections of manufactured components to ensure they meet stringent quality standards and customer specifications. This role is essential to maintaining our reputation for precision and excellence in the metal manufacturing industry, serving as a quality gatekeeper between production and delivery to our valued clients.

Key responsibilities

1. Perform detailed first article inspections on precision metal components according to customer specifications and engineering drawings

2. Utilise precision measurement instruments and tools to verify dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and other critical characteristics

3. Document inspection results accurately and prepare first article inspection reports (FAIR) for customer approval

4. Identify non-conformances and communicate findings to production and quality management teams

5. Collaborate with engineering and production departments to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions

6. Maintain calibration records for all inspection equipment and ensure tools are functioning within acceptable tolerances

7. Verify that components meet industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance specifications

8. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends and areas for process enhancement

9. Maintain detailed inspection documentation and quality records for traceability and audit purposes

What we're looking for

1. Proven experience in first article inspection, quality control, or precision measurement within a manufacturing or assembly environment

2. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, engineering specifications, and quality standards

3. Hands-on experience with precision measurement instruments such as micrometres, callipers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)

4. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles

5. Knowledge of relevant quality standards including ISO 9001, ISO 13849, or similar manufacturing quality frameworks

6. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with high precision requirements

7. Strong documentation and record-keeping skills with proficiency in quality management systems

8. Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams

9. Problem-solving mindset with the capability to identify root causes and recommend solutions

10. Relevant qualifications in quality assurance, metrology, or manufacturing engineering are advantageous

11. Familiarity with first article inspection report (FAIR) procedures and customer approval processes is desirable
