Responsibilities
The Government Digital Product (GDP) Team aims to spearhead the digital
transformation of government. GDP was established to develop new capabilities
focusing on strategic systems of engagement where ICT provides a
differentiating factor to citizens. The team functions to deliver digital information
and transactional services leveraging on Agile Application Development,
Analytics, User Experience Design, Design Thinking and Web Application
Performance Optimisation.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a self-driven and experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to
take ownership of the engineering platforms and cloud infrastructure
powering our software products.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy — anticipating project needs,
proactively shaping technical direction, and driving initiatives end-to-end
without needing close direction.
You will lead by example, mentor engineers, and partner closely with product,
engineering, and security stakeholders to ensure our systems are reliable,
scalable, secure, and efficient.
You should be someone who actively keeps pace with evolving project
demands, brings in the right tools and practices at the right time, and raises the
bar for operational excellence across the team.
Responsibilities
Own the design, build, and evolution of cloud infrastructure and
deployment pipelines supporting web and mobile products, anticipating
future project needs rather than reacting to them.
Drive automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and
operations using Infrastructure as Code and scripting, and continuously
raise the team's automation maturity.
Lead the design and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines to
optimise deployment speed, consistency, and reliability.
Set up and operate observability, monitoring, and alerting; proactively
identify risks and resolve incidents before they impact users.
Champion platform security — access control, secrets management,
vulnerability management, secure deployment — and ensure best
practices are embedded into delivery workflows.
Lead incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and
post-incident improvements; uplift overall system resilience.
Partner closely with software engineers, product managers, and
stakeholders to remove delivery friction and enable reliable releases.
Review and evolve system architecture and operational processes to
improve scalability, maintainability, and cost efficiency.
Establish and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and
technical standards aligned with architectural and governance guidelines.
Drive adoption of DevOps, observability, and reliability best practices
across the team; mentor junior engineers and uplift their technical
capability.
Stay ahead of the curve on cloud infrastructure, platform engineering,
DevOps, and SRE — and bring relevant tools, patterns, and practices
into the project as needs evolve.
Key Experiences and Qualifications We Seek:
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems,
Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Experience:
7+ years of relevant experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site
Reliability Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering roles.
4+ years of experience leading engineering teams, projects, or technical
initiatives, with a demonstrated track record of independently driving
outcomes.
Technical Expertise:
Deep hands-on experience with AWS, including ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3,
Aurora, RDS, IAM, CloudWatch, and networking/security components.
Strong proficiency with containerisation and orchestration (Docker,
container-based deployments at production scale).
Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
and release automation on GitLab and Jira.
Strong command of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation),
including module design and reuse.
Solid grasp of system reliability, observability, monitoring, alerting, and
logging at scale.
Working knowledge of modern application stacks (React, Node.js, React
Native) sufficient to collaborate effectively with and unblock development
teams.
Familiarity with database operations and administration for MySQL and
PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of authentication, middleware, application
security, API integrations, and system connectivity.
Solid grounding in computer science and engineering fundamentals,
including cloud computing principles, software design patterns, and secure
system design.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to break down complex problems into manageable, actionable
items — and drive them to closure without prompting.
Proven ability to formulate structured, practical solutions that improve
delivery, reliability, and operational outcomes.
Comfort operating with ambiguity, defining the path forward, and
aligning others around it.
Additional Skills (Bonus Points):
Experience working with Singapore whole-of-government systems or
regulated environments.
Strong stakeholder management and cross-team coordination skills,
including engagement with senior stakeholders.
Knowledge of disaster recovery, backup strategies, business continuity
planning, and operational readiness.
Experience with platform governance, compliance, and production
support processes.
Experience mentoring and growing junior DevOps/SRE engineers.
Character traits we look out for:
Self-driven and proactive — takes ownership and makes things happen
without being told.
Continuous learner — keeps current with industry developments and
brings new ideas into the project.
Strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
Openness to new ideas and willingness to challenge the status quo
constructively.
Willingness and capability to share knowledge and uplift the team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to engage
confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
