Location: Penang, Malaysia

Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Technician Intern to support the Facilities and Engineering team in maintaining and improving mechanical systems within a high-tech manufacturing environment.

The intern will gain hands-on exposure to facility operations, preventive maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and engineering support for critical mechanical systems such as HVAC, PCW, OFA/CDA, PVAC, pumps, and exhaust systems.

This internship provides valuable experience in a fast-paced industrial environment and an opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Support engineers and technicians in daily operation and maintenance activities for mechanical systems.
  • Assist in monitoring facility systems including:
    • HVAC systems
    • Process Chilled Water (PCW) systems
    • Oil-Free Air (OFA/CDA) systems
    • Process Vacuum (PVAC) systems
    • Pumps, fans, and exhaust systems
  • Participate in routine inspections and equipment performance monitoring.

Preventive Maintenance Support

  • Assist in preventive maintenance activities for mechanical equipment and building systems.
  • Support maintenance documentation, checklists, and service records.
  • Learn troubleshooting methods for mechanical system abnormalities and failures.

Project & Improvement Activities

  • Assist engineers in improvement projects related to system reliability, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Participate in site walks, audits, and engineering reviews.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Update maintenance logs, reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and operational summaries.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety procedures, EHS policies, and site regulations.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox meetings, and emergency drills.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe work practices at all times.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Facilities Engineering
    • Mechatronics Engineering
    • or related engineering field
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems such as HVAC, pumps, or exhaust systems.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to AutoCAD, BMS, or CMMS systems is an advantage.
  • Internship experience in manufacturing or facilities environment is a plus.
  • Strong interest in facilities operation and maintenance engineering.
