We are looking for a Component Engineer to join our team. In this role, it reports to the Director of Supplier Operations and will have the opportunity to work with a team of other component engineers in assuring Cohu products meet and exceed customer expectations. The candidate will be responsible for providing component engineering services to the functional engineering and strategic sourcing teams.

Impact You Will Make

  • Assist design engineers in selecting, qualifying, approving, and documenting release of new components.

  • Work with the multiple teams including: Hardware Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, and Quality and Reliability groups.

  • Provide engineering support for component optimization and risk assessments on new/existing designs.

  • Offering solutions for alternate sourcing of components as needed.

  • Working with manufacturers to develop new products aligned with Cohu STG product needs.

  • Work closely with Engineering and Strategic Sourcing teams to select a wide range of components for new projects, as well as providing replacement components to sustain production of new, current and legacy products.

  • Support and maintain component lifecycle updates using SiliconExpert and other component analysis tools.

  • Review Bills of Materials (BoM’s) against new project requirements to assess overall component choices and risk factors such as: availability, lead-time, life expectancy, environmental compliance, manufacturing process compatibility, and alignments with other supply chain requirements.

  • Review and provide advice/solutions as needed to components’ Process-Change-Notices (PCN’s), End-of-Life (EOL) / Obsolescence, Availability, and Lead-Time impacts.

  • Manage and resolve components obsolescence issues by coordinating alternate part qualification activities with Engineering and/or the Contract Manufacturer.

  • Technical liaison between Projects, Purchasing, and Supply Chain for component availability, preferability, and lead-time issues.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CS&E), or related engineering disciplines that require a high level of attention to detail. Candidates with a Bachelors degree in EE or CE are preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of work experience.

  • Strong background in Electrical and Electro-Mechanical components.

  • Experience across a wide-range of commodities including Electronic (semiconductors and passives), Connectors, Electromechanical, Magnetic, RF, Power Supplies, and other related components. 

  • Understanding the impact of environmental compliance requirements such as RoHS, REACH, and Conflict Minerals.

  • Ability to work closely with Contract Manufactures (CM’s), component suppliers and representatives.

  • Experience in developing component-obsolescence mitigation plans is a plus.

  • Solid experience in reading and understanding engineering drawings, component datasheets, and manufacturers’ PCN’s.

  • Experience with PLM tools such as SiliconExpert and/or Oracle.

  • Proficient with the MS Office suite, with specific competence in data analysis and manipulation using Excel and Access. (Ad Hoc Analysis experience is a plus)

  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate in-writing including e-mails, ECO’s (Engineering Change Orders), problem statements, specifications, and other technical component-related documents as needed.
