Job Description

Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager (Localization) is responsible for managing parts localization and purchasing functions related to CKD production operations. The role ensures timely achievement of model localization targets in compliance with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and Government requirements. This position oversees new model localization activities, local parts development, supplier engineering support and cross-functional coordination to ensure successful project execution and smooth mass production.

Responsibilities:

New Model Project – Local Parts & Vendor Selection

• Establish potential local parts listing based on availability and capability of local vendors, including Technical Assistance (TA) relationships.

• Establish, implement and closely monitor overall project development plans to meet new model localization targets.

• Support supplier selection, evaluation and development activities in close collaboration with Cost Planning Section.

• Act as the main point-of-contact for coordination and communication with MMC R&D during local parts selection and requirements alignment.

• Request, track and ensure dissemination of all required technical information from MMC prior to new project kick-off with local vendors.

New Model Project – Local Parts Development & Supplier Engineering Support

• Develop and support local suppliers throughout local parts development to obtain MMC approval.

• Perform regular and ad-hoc supplier audits during the development period in compliance with IATF 16949 requirements.

• Evaluate suppliers’ development progress based on engineering drawings, specifications and material risk assessments in collaboration with MMC R&D.

• Monitor tooling progress, parts production trials, sample verification, vehicle fitting trials and functional testing.

• Lead and coordinate parts improvement activities with suppliers and monitor initial parts delivery during mass production.

Supplier Assessment & Existing Model Support

• Evaluate new potential suppliers based on QCDM (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Management) performance for the Supplier Pool programme.

• Provide localization and technical support for existing models by working closely with Quality Assurance, Production Control, Logistics and Aftersales, and as well as participating in MMC Plant Audits.

• Support cost down initiatives by contributing technical input to Cost Planning Section for local parts optimization such as part design, competitive material dual sourcing, optimize production line, packaging design & delivery pattern.

Engineering Order & Department Support

• Monitor Engineering Order (EO) implementation and initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECR) when required.

• Ensure compliance with MMC standards, departmental SOPs and documentation requirements.

• Support departmental reporting, documentation maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

• Preferably Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.

• Minimum of 8 years automotive industry experience involving localization, technical supply chain, procurement or parts development.

• Strong understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings, automotive parts, systems and supplier management.

• Good knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, PPAP, Control Plan and SPC.

• Strong problem-solving, coordination, communication and presentation skills.

• Good command of Bahasa Malaysia and English (written and spoken); Japanese language (speaking) is an added advantage.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and familiar with CAD software (CATIA V5).
