An OpenSearch Reliability Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining OpenSearch clusters for logging, monitoring, and analytics platforms. Key responsibilities include cluster administration, performance tuning, indexing optimization, and ensuring high availability. The role involves configuring shards, replicas, backups, and disaster recovery mechanisms. Engineers also manage log ingestion pipelines using Fluent Bit, Fluentd, or Logstash. They monitor cluster health, JVM usage, storage, and query performance. Security responsibilities include RBAC, encryption, IAM/LDAP integration, and audit logging. Automation using Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines is also part of the role. In AWS environments, they manage Amazon OpenSearch Service integrations with CloudWatch, S3, and VPCs. Troubleshooting production incidents, shard failures, and scaling challenges is a major responsibility. The role supports enterprise observability, SIEM, compliance, and centralized logging initiatives.
