Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading the purchasing function to ensure the timely procurement of raw materials, precision machined components, sheet metal parts, automation components, outsourced processes, services, and indirect supplies at the optimum balance of cost, quality, and delivery performance. The role manages strategic supplier relationships, sourcing initiatives, cost reduction programs, inventory optimization, and procurement compliance to support high-mix, low-volume manufacturing operations within the semiconductor and medical device industries. The position collaborates closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Project Management teams to support new product introduction (NPI), customer ramp-up requirements, and business growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Management

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Manage procurement activities for direct and indirect materials.
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials to support production schedules.
  • Monitor and improve supplier delivery performance.
  • Approve purchase orders within assigned authority limits.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.

Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits and performance reviews.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and supply agreements.

Cost Management

  • Lead annual cost reduction and value engineering programs.
  • Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to identify savings opportunities.
  • Monitor commodity price trends and supply market risks.
  • Support quotation activities by obtaining competitive supplier pricing.

Inventory & Planning Support

  • Collaborate with Production Planning, Engineering, and Warehouse teams to optimize inventory levels.
  • Monitor material shortages and expedite critical items.
  • Minimize excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Support inventory accuracy and stock control initiatives.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Engineering, NPI, Production, Quality, Finance, and Logistics departments.
  • Support new product introductions and customer projects.
  • Participate in supplier selection during new product development.
  • Resolve material quality and supply issues promptly.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the purchasing team.
  • Set departmental KPIs and monitor performance.
  • Coach and mentor buyers and purchasing executives.
  • Drive continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Establish long-term strategic partnerships with key suppliers.
  • Manage supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.

Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years of purchasing/procurement experience.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing, semiconductor equipment, medical devices, precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, or automation industry is preferred.

Preferred for Skygate

  • Experience managing purchasing for CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, high-level assembly, and automation equipment projects.

Able to support rapid NPI and high-mix low-volume manufacturing operations

  • Familiar with semiconductor equipment and medical device supply chains.
  • Experience handling imported materials, custom parts, fabrication suppliers, and contract manufacturing environments.

Pay: Up to RM10,001.00 per month
