Responsibilities

Job Overview:

The Associate Materials & Coatings Engineer utilizes existing Materials & Coatings procedures to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the team, and they will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to Materials & Coatings and Engineering.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge and skills to complete varied assignments in the field of materials, welding, and coatings for various types of projects like FEED, EPC, and studies
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed material design and analyses including design reports and procedures
  • Prioritize acquiring materials, welding, and coating knowledge and expertise
  • Focus on completing work within time
  • Communicate and explain information in straightforward engineering activities
  • Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements
  • Develop basic knowledge of MDR's business units
  • Develop a basic understanding of MDR's business and the customers it serves
  • Develop basic knowledge of the interactions between the departments
  • Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Develop an awareness of costs related to own work and of the discipline
  • Discipline related tasks are:
    • Preparation of material selection reports and diagrams for energy transition projects, refinery units, petrochemical units, offshore installations, etc.
    • Develop and prepare metallurgical technical specifications for projects
    • Review vendor documentation on metallurgical topics
    • Contribute to the development of a risk-based inspection (RBI) study
    • Keep appraised on developments in the field of materials, fabrication methods, and other discipline-related fields
    • Interface with other departments to obtain input for metallurgy designs and drawings
    • Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to the Lead Engineer and Metallurgy Manager

Reports to:
Project: Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise With: Engineers, Design Supervisors, and Designers of their discipline


Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • 0-3 years of experience in oil and gas
  • Learning the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
  • Learning design techniques and analysis methods
  • Eager to learn and open to continuous development
  • Working knowledge of English, both oral and written
  • HSE, TQM and cost-conscious
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
    • The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
    • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
    • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
    • The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
  • Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions
