A Production Operator in the Formation section is responsible for carrying out the initial charging and discharging cycles of battery cells. This process (known as formation) activates the battery chemistry and ensures cells meet performance, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities - Formation Process Operation
- Operate formation equipment to perform initial charge/discharge cycles on battery cells
- Load and unload battery cells into formation racks or trays
- Follow precise formation recipes and parameters (voltage, current, temperature)
Monitoring & Control
- Monitor formation systems for abnormalities (voltage drops, overheating, current issues)
- Ensure all parameters stay within specified limits
- Respond to alarms and escalate issues to technicians/engineers
Quality Assurance
- Inspect cells before and after formation for defects (swelling, leakage, damage)
- Ensure cells meet required electrical performance criteria
- Segregate and report non-conforming products
Equipment Handling & Maintenance
- Perform basic troubleshooting on formation machines
- Conduct routine cleaning and preventive maintenance
- Report equipment faults or irregularities
Material Handling
- Handle battery cells carefully to avoid damage or safety risks
- Transfer cells between processes (aging, grading, etc.)
- Ensure correct labeling and traceability
Documentation & Data Recording
- Record production data such as cycle results, yield, and defects
- Maintain logs for traceability and compliance
- Use MES (Manufacturing Execution System) or other tracking systems
Safety & Compliance
- Follow strict battery safety procedures (high voltage, fire risk, chemical exposure)
- Use appropriate PPE at all times
- Adhere to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) policies
- Respond to emergency situations (thermal events, alarms)
Requirements / Skills
- Minimum SPM / Diploma in technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics preferred)
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts (voltage, current, resistance)
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and work in controlled environments
- Willingness to work shifts (including night shift)
- Good attention to detail and safety awareness
