Responsibilities

About the Role

Britannia has an excellent opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to provide operational and technical support to Britannia’s Underwriting Team. This role will enable you to put your excellent communication skills to use, as you interact with colleagues across the Company, as well as with brokers and members. We are looking for someone proficient with data, possesses good organisational and analytical skills, and able to demonstrate a good understanding of financial concepts.

Your Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include the following:


Operational Support

  • Assist underwriters in the preparation, processing and issuance of P&I insurance quotes, endorsements, certificates and policy documentation in conjunction with the Underwriting Processing team.
  • Maintain accurate records and data entry in the underwriting IT systems and databases.


Member and Broker Liaison

  • Act as a point of contact for brokers, Members and internal departments regarding underwriting information, documentation and policy status
  • Coordinate with Members and brokers to gather necessary information for underwriting evaluation


Risk Assessment Support

  • Assist in gathering and reviewing relevant risk information, including vessel data, loss records, Member and broker due diligence to support underwriting decisions.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis and research on risks under the supervision of underwriters


Compliance and Procedures

  • Ensure adherence to internal underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Support the underwriting team in compliance related tasks as required


Reporting and Documentation

  • Ensure accurate and timely production of documentation
  • Prepare reports, summaries and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor and follow up on pending items such as premium payments, mid-term requests, cancellation requests, documentation and renewals.

About You

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum 3 years marine insurance experience in underwriting support capacity gained from within an international P&I Club, legal firm, ship owners or ships agents.
  • Also open to candidates with brokering or insurance experience within the maritime industry.
  • Degree holder or equivalent (preferably in a maritime-related subject).


Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate and familiar with all MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
  • Intermediate level for Microsoft Excel (proficient in Vlookup and pivot tables)
  • Knowledge of insurance software is desirable e.g. BPMS System equivalent

  • Judgement – collates the required information, involves the appropriate people to ensure the best decisions are made and subsequently implemented
  • Communication – ability to quickly assimilate information, establish key issues and to express them effectively and succinctly in writing and verbally
  • Organised and methodical – ability to organise and produce work of a high standard under time pressure
  • Customer-focused – proactive and recognises the needs of external/internal customers and consistently delivers
