Job Description

Responsibilities

Solar Project Engineer

We are hiring a Solar Project Engineer to take ownership of the engineering core of our Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects, from system design and sizing through to testing and commissioning. This is an engineering-focused seat inside an EPC team that is being deliberately reshaped. Until recently, our Project Engineers carried every part of a project: licensing and procurement, sales support, design, commissioning, and post-commissioning issues. As we expand the team with dedicated owners for business development, project coordination, and operations and maintenance, our Project Engineers will focus on the engineering work itself. You will be one of those Project Engineers.

The role

  • A role within the EPC team.
  • Owns solar PV system design, sizing, optimisation, testing, and commissioning across awarded projects.
  • Reports to the Chief Engineer.
  • Works alongside the existing Project Engineers and three other active hires (an Assistant Project Engineer, a Business Development Engineer, and an Operations and Maintenance Engineer).
  • Profit-sharing participation under the EPC engineering scheme.

What you will work on

  • Own system design and sizing: Size arrays to the roof and load, model yield, configure strings, and produce the single-line diagrams, drawings and bill of materials.
  • Run installation and quality control: Coordinate installation with technicians and subcontractors, inspect against the design, and fix any inconsistencies on site.
  • Test, commission, and hand over: Lead testing and commissioning, clear the punch list, and prepare commissioning documentation for handover.
  • Optimise as you go: Look at every project as data. Compare actual yield against your model and feed what you learn into the next design.
  • Stay technically credible: Be the engineering voice with customers, support proposals, and represent Rooftop Energy at the technical table.

Who you probably are

Must have

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering, or equivalent technical foundation.
  • Two or more years of hands-on engineering experience on grid-connected solar PV projects, including design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of system sizing, single-line diagrams, string design, inverter selection, and TNB grid-connection processes (eAtap).
  • Comfortable on a roof and on a customer site, reading site conditions and translating them into design inputs.
  • Comfortable with the engineering software and tools used to design and model solar systems.
  • Strong written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across Malaysia as needed.

Good to have

  • Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV) certification, or active candidate for one.
  • Chargeman certification (BO/A4 or higher).
  • Experience commissioning systems in the commercial and industrial sector.
  • Familiarity with energy storage, behind-the-meter battery sizing, or hybrid system design.
  • Working knowledge of RooftopIQ or other solar proposal and asset-management platforms.
  • Experience working within an EPC team with role specialisation, rather than a generalist setup.

What you get

  • Engineering you can actually focus on: The EPC team is being reshaped so Project Engineers can spend their time on design, sizing, testing, and commissioning, not on licensing chases and procurement follow-ups. You join a team where the structure backs the engineering work.
  • Real volume: A growing project pipeline and an expanding commissioned portfolio. There is no shortage of design and commissioning work to own.
  • Platform-backed: RooftopIQ supports the engineering, proposal, and asset-management work behind every project you touch.
  • Cross-functional context: You work alongside business development, project coordination, operations and maintenance, and the platform team. The full lifecycle of a solar project is visible from this seat.
  • Direct access: Direct line to the Chief Engineer and visibility to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Profit-sharing participation: EPC engineers participate in a profit-sharing scheme that aligns individual performance with company results. Final scope of participation for this role will be confirmed at the offer stage.
