Job Description

Responsibilities

Key areas of responsibilities:


Credit Risk

  • Approve credit transactions within Delegation of Authority (“DOA”).
  • Review, recommend and approve credit submissions with good balance between risks and returns and in compliance with the Company’s credit policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Responsible and accountable for (i) data integrity and hygiene in respect of the decision-making process, (ii) the efficient and smooth operation of the Department.
  • Direct and lead the conceptualization, development, implementation, review and monitoring of various credit assessment tools.
  • Lead a team of credit analysis to ensure optimal standard credit quality that includes but not limited to clean data hygiene and information integrity.
  • Provide leadership, training and coaching to continuously upgrade the competency and skill development of the credit analysis.
  • Ensure that submitted credit proposals (i) are structurally viable (ii) have its risks identified and adequately mitigated (iii) contain adequate credit covenants and conditions to mitigate the Company’s risk.
  • Able to transpose good industry and market knowledge of the counterparties and portfolio into the credit assessment tools.
  • Ensure the prompt and timely turnaround (within stipulated SLA guideline) of credit, memorandums and any paper submitted for approval by management and/or ORIX Corporation.
  • If and when directed, actively participate in the recovery strategy for complex credit, working closely with the management, Head Credit Supervision Department and Head Marketing.
  • Ensure that the inquiries raised by ORIX Corporation on the submitted credit application reports are responded to in timely and appropriate manner.
  • Be apprised of the lending landscape development and credit environment as well as the regulatory changes affecting the Company’s credit risk and assessment environment, able to assess and propose new credit policy and process for management’s consideration. Upon approval, undertake the operative execution and successful roll-out of the approved policy and processes.
  • Review the credit approval policies, guidelines and process engineering to ensure relevance and in tandem with the Company’s business evolution.
  • Provide support to the Business Unit by ensuring that the Department’s processes are updated, rationalized and streamlined. In this regard, identified operational shortfalls are closed out straightaway.
  • Review, update and approve the Credit Risk Operating Manuals and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) annually.


Risk Management

  • Conduct research and analysis of the industries and markets that are relevant to the existing and prospective businesses of the Company.
  • Analyse and monitor the Company’s portfolio, provide updates on risk direction to the management, and recommend pre-emptive measures to be undertaken, formulation of procedures, policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct industry study and regular update on economic review for the reference of management and Business Units to keep abreast with the fast-changing business environment.
  • Identify micro and macro issues relating to the risks elements of the Company’s business operation and formulate processes or policies, aimed at risk containment.
  • Active lead in the undertakings of investigative and trouble-shooting nature on specific customer and/or the Company’s portfolio.

Other Responsibilities

  • Conduct yearly performance review of the staff in the Department.
  • Lead, manage and/or perform ad-hoc assignment(s) and/or special projects as requested by management from time to time.


Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related disciplines. Professional qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in corporate lending and credit risk management. Exposure to marketing/business development will be advantageous.
  • Strong experience in complex credit evaluation and structuring. Experience in Real Estate Financing will be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and credit assessment capabilities, with excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of evolving business, regulatory and credit environments, with the ability to respond proactively to change
  • Strong leadership qualities with a passion for people development and team management.
  • A decisive, pragmatic and collaborative leader with strong interpersonal skills and sound business judgment.
