ASSISTANT RESEARCH OFFICER (MICROBIOLOGY/ APPLIED MICROBIOLOGY/ MOLECULAR MICROBIOLOGY)

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Research Officer to join our R&D team at Wilmar International Limited, Singapore. The successful candidate will contribute to research projects focused on the isolation, characterization and optimization of microbial strains for industrial applications. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about microbiology to grow in a dynamic, industry-driven research environment.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological work, including microbial isolation, cultivation, characterization, and preservation.
• Conduct molecular biology and biochemical assays, including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and sample preparation for analytical measurements and sequencing.
• Conduct and scale up microbial fermentation processes.
• Execute assigned experimental tasks in accordance with established protocols, SOPs, and quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with the team lead and project supervisor to ensure timely delivery of R&D milestones.
• Conduct literature reviews and data analysis to support ongoing research projects.
• Assist in preparing technical reports and presenting findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Support laboratory operations by maintaining high standards of housekeeping, health and safety compliance, and accurate record-keeping.
• Provide administrative support for laboratory operations, including inventory management, stock monitoring, and procurement of laboratory supplies.

Job requirements.

• BSc or MSc degree in Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, Translational Microbiology, or a related discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn
• Motivated to work on interdisciplinary projects in a dynamic and multicultural environment at the intersection of academic research and industrial application.
• Fresh graduates with a strong interest in applied and translational research are encouraged to apply.
• Prior laboratory experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of and experience in bioinformatics and fermentation scale-up processes will be an added advantage.
