JOB SUMMARY/POSITION PURPOSE: Facilitates communication between the hearing impaired students and instructors, other students and staff. Assists the student in the learning environment throughout the community education activity.

Facilitates communication between students with hearing impairments, staff and students with sign language.

A. Interprets and transliterates the community education activity when spoken language and/or sign language is necessary;

B. Determines appropriate interpretation/transliteration of the spoken language;

C. Interprets/transliterates during the community education activity attended by the student with a

hearing impairment;

D. Provides language and social modeling to assigned learner(s) through completion of

activities, interactive conversation and play with others

Education/Certification/Licensure Requirement:

Associate’s degree or equivalent in Interpreter Training/Deaf Education; or a combination of

education/experience/training which provides for an equivalent background necessary to perform the work.

Any Certification accepted by the American Consortium of Certified Interpreters certification or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf certification or the ability to obtain.

HOURLY RATE: $29 per hour
