Okapi Solar Hiring! Full Time Junior Software Engineer in Federal Territory - Ricebowl

Okapi Solar is an early stage startup that is accelerating the energy transition in Malaysia & Southeast Asia by disrupting the residential solar sales and financing industry. We develop embedded financing solutions and structure affordable solar leasing packages to allow homeowners across the region to take advantage of cheap and abundant solar energy with little to no upfront costs. Our investors include some of the most active impact investing firms and successful entrepreneurs in the region, and we hold ourselves accountable to each other and the future generations of this planet.

Okapi distributes our proprietary underwriting technology to our network of 80+ solar installer partners to streamline their solar consultation and sales process and act as a force multiplier that drives increased conversion rates and faster sales cycles. At the same time, our in-house asset management platform integrates directly into renewable energy systems and provides instant visibility and analytics across our widely distributed portfolio of 500+ monitored stations to our financing partners. We are also building AI-powered sales and support capabilities to scale our customer acquisition and partner operations.

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to work closely with our Director of Engineering across the full stack. As an early engineering hire, you will have direct exposure to every layer of the product, from backend APIs and admin tooling to solar data infrastructure and AI integrations. You will play a real role in shaping the platform that powers our growing leasing business.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Software development

• Build and maintain features across the Okapi platform, including our installer-facing application, internal admin dashboards, and asset monitoring systems
• Write clean, well-typed backend code in Laravel (PHP 8.3) following established patterns and conventions
• Develop and maintain frontend interfaces in React and Filament as needed
• Write and maintain tests to ensure code quality and reliability
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to process improvement initiatives

Requirements:

• Solid Computer Science fundamentals and strong problem-solving skills
• 0-3 years of full-stack development experience, familiarity with Laravel is a must.
• Ability to write clean, strictly-typed code with attention to structure and maintainability
• Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and writing performant queries
• Working knowledge of Git, CLI/Linux, and basic development workflows
• Self-directed learner who can work independently in a small team environment

Good to Haves

• Experience with Filament.
• React or modern frontend framework experience
• Familiarity with Node.js or Deno
• Exposure to GCP or any major cloud platform
• Interest in or experience with AI/LLM tooling, IoT data, or solar energy
• Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments
• Open source contributions or personal projects you can demonstrate
