About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading Oil & Gas engineering and fabrication company in Malaysia. This role sits within the Front End and Detail Design Engineering (FDDE) Section and is responsible for leading Process Safety Engineering activities across proposal, FEED, and EPCIC project phases.
The incumbent will play a critical role in ensuring design integrity, safety compliance, and technical excellence across offshore and onshore projects such as Central Processing Platforms (CPP) and Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facilities.
Job Purpose
As the Lead Process Safety Engineer, you will drive engineering review and verification across project phases to optimize safety, quality, cost, and schedule. You will also support the implementation of corporate engineering standards while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform engineering review and verification of FEED documents during ITB (Invitation to Bid) proposal stage
- Review, manage, and validate FEED deliverables during ITB and FEED competition phases
- Endorse FEED deliverables prior to transition into detailed design / EPCIC phase
- Oversee and verify detailed design work throughout EPCIC execution
- Manage vendor document reviews and ensure proper integration into engineering design
- Support Site Technical Query (STQ) resolution during fabrication phase
- Review commissioning procedures and provide technical support during commissioning activities
- Ensure all process safety deliverables meet project safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to drive project success
- Lead, coach, and mentor junior engineers within the organization
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 15–25 years of experience in Oil & Gas industry
- Proven experience in at least one Lead role for CPP or FPSO projects
- Strong experience across FEED and EPCIC project phases
- Registration as Professional Engineer (PE) with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) or equivalent is an added advantage
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Extensive hands-on experience in Process Safety and Risk Studies, including:
- HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, RAM Studies
- Safety Case (Design & Operations)
- Safety Critical Element Assessment
- Flare, Radiation, Dispersion Studies (e.g., Flaresim)
- Escape, Evacuation & Rescue Assessment (EERA)
- Emergency System Survivability Assessment (ESSA)
- Noise & Vibration Assessment
- Quantitative & Qualitative Risk Assessments
- Strong knowledge in Loss Prevention engineering, including:
- Firewater System Design (demand, hydraulics, steady-state & transient simulations)
- Fire Fighting Systems and Life Saving Appliances
- Hazardous Area Classification
- Safety Signage, TRP specifications, and datasheets
- Familiar with 3D simulation tools such as FLACS, KFX, or equivalent
