EdTech Specialist

Are you a tech-savvy problem solver with a passion for education and a heart for serving underprivileged children?
Caring Hearts Bhd is seeking an EdTech Specialist to drive the integration of technology across our Equal Start education program. In this role, you won’t just be managing systems, you will be the bridge between education and technology, equipping our learning centres with the tools, platforms, and digital solutions needed to enhance teaching, streamline operations, and improve student outcomes.

Overall Role

The EdTech Specialist plays a strategic, technical, and operational role in integrating technology into the Learning Centre’s education program. The EdTech Specialist is responsible for the selection, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of digital learning tools, platforms, and systems that enhance student learning outcomes and operational efficiency.

Working under the guidance of the Equal Start Education team, the EdTech Specialist collaborates with teachers, curriculum developers, and operations teams to ensure that educational technology aligns with pedagogical goals and supports effective classroom delivery.

The EdTech Specialist also provides hands-on technical support, system maintenance, and user training to ensure all devices, platforms, and digital tools function effectively across learning centres.

The EdTech Specialist is expected to uphold the organization’s mission, professional standards, and safeguarding requirements in all duties.

Reporting to: Equal Start Team Lead

Directly Supervised by: Curriculum Development Team Lead / Designated Supervisor

Location & Working Hours

  • Location: Penang mainland.
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (30-minute lunch break) — enjoy a consistent work schedule with no weekend requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Education Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Google Apps Script, or similar).
  • Experience in IT support, system administration, or technical operations.
  • Experience developing or implementing educational software or digital tools.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Google Classroom, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills (hardware, software, and networks).
  • Ability to train and support non-technical users effectively.
  • Experience with databases, automation, and system integration is an advantage.
  • Basic design or content creation skills (e.g., slides, infographics, multimedia tools) are an advantage.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in education or working with children is an advantage.
  • Willingness to comply fully with child protection, safeguarding, and professional standards.
  • Confirmation of employment is subject to successful completion of probation, including demonstrated technical competency, reliability, and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

Communication with the Leaders

  • Communicate regularly with the Equal Start Education team and Curriculum Development team on EdTech implementation, system performance, and operational issues.
  • Provide updates on platform usage, technical issues, and improvement plans.
  • Escalate system risks, failures, or data concerns promptly.

EdTech Strategy, Integration, and Implementation

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement learning applications aligned with curriculum objectives and classroom needs.
  • Define technical and instructional requirements to ensure tools are age-appropriate, engaging, and effective.
  • Collaborate with teachers and curriculum teams to integrate technology into lessons, assessments, and student learning pathways.
  • Ensure seamless integration of learning platforms with curriculum delivery.
  • Monitor app usage and effectiveness, and refine implementation based on feedback and performance data.
  • Implement collaboration tools to enhance communication between students, teachers, and parents.

Technology Deployment, Maintenance, and Infrastructure

  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and network systems across learning centres.
  • Manage and optimize Google Workspace, Google Classroom, and other cloud-based platforms.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to devices, internet connectivity, and software applications.
  • Ensure systems, devices, and platforms are functioning reliably with minimal disruption to learning.
  • Coordinate with vendors or service providers where necessary.

Digital Platform Development and Automation

  • Design and develop lightweight custom software solutions to support curriculum delivery, student tracking, and administrative processes.
  • Build automation tools and integrations using technologies such as Python, Google Apps Script, or similar.
  • Ensure systems are user-friendly, scalable, and aligned with operational needs.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Create and manage secure databases for student progress, platform usage, and operational data.
  • Automate reporting systems and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Analyze data to generate insights on student performance, engagement, and system effectiveness.
  • Support data-driven decision-making across academic and operational teams.

User Training and Support

  • Conduct training sessions for teachers and students on digital tools and platforms.
  • Develop user guides, SOPs, FAQs, and video tutorials to enhance digital literacy.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to educators, staff, and students.
  • Support onboarding of new users to EdTech systems and tools.

EdTech Program and Learning App Implementation

  • Assist in evaluating, selecting, and implementing learning applications aligned with curriculum goals.
  • Work closely with curriculum developers and educators to optimize digital learning experiences.
  • Monitor and report on application effectiveness, engagement, and learning outcomes.

Graphical Content Creation for Learning Materials

  • Support the development of interactive and visually engaging digital learning resources.
  • Create infographics, diagrams, and multimedia content for lessons and assessments.
  • Assist in formatting and enhancing workbooks, slides, and online course materials.

Inventory and Asset Management

  • Maintain inventory, tracking, and control of devices such as tablets, laptops, and Chromebooks.
  • Ensure proper allocation, usage, maintenance, and security of all devices.
  • Monitor device condition and report or resolve defects promptly.

Research, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on emerging educational technologies, AI tools, and best practices in ESL and primary education.
  • Explore and implement innovative solutions to enhance engagement, personalization, and scalability.
  • Utilize modern content creation tools, including AI, to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Continuously refine systems, tools, and processes based on feedback and data insights.

Professional Development and Team Contribution

  • Attend team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Collaborate across departments to support curriculum implementation and EdTech initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of digital learning materials and systems.

Other Duties

  • Support centre-wide initiatives, pilot programs, and technology rollouts.
  • Assist the Curriculum Development team as required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Curriculum Development Team Lead.
