PROCESS ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Department: R&D & Engineering
Reports To: R&D & Engineering Manager
Location: Manufacturing Facility – Malaysia
Role Purpose
The Process Engineer is responsible for designing, standardizing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes to ensure optimal productivity, quality, cost efficiency, and safety.
This role focuses on process design and long-term improvement, not daily production execution.
Key Responsibilities
Process Design & Standardization
- Develop, define, and optimize manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
- Create, maintain, and improve process flow charts, SOPs, work instructions, PFMEA, and control plans. (PFMEA = Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Establish standard cycle times, manpower requirements, and machine capacity.
- Design and validate jigs, fixtures, tools, and layouts to improve efficiency and consistency.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Conduct time studies, line balancing, and capacity analysis.
- Lead Lean, Kaizen, and waste-reduction initiatives.
- Analyze process performance data (cycle time, yield, rejection rate) and implement systematic improvements.
- Drive long-term corrective actions for recurring process-related issues.
New Product Industrialization
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and industrialization from R&D to mass production.
- Define manufacturing feasibility, process risks, and mitigation plans before mass production.
- Participate in pilot runs, trial builds, and process validation activities.
Cross-Functional Technical Support
- Provide process-level technical support to Production and Quality teams.
- Conduct root cause analysis for process-related defects or inefficiencies.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Production, QA, and Supply Chain to align process capability with business needs.
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical/Optical Manufacturing Engineering with 2 - 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience in setup/operation CNC automation system.
- Familiar with various measurement instruments including interferometers, micrometre, callipers, dial indicators, height gages, pH meters etc
- Ability to operate a CNC controlled finishing machine on fragile optics
- Understanding technical drawing and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance).
- Familiarity with SAP and Lean Six Sigma will be advantageous.
- Able to train and coach junior CNC technicians in the programming and machining of complex glass geometries.
- Team player with good analytical and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced results oriented environment.
