As a publicly traded company with over 3,000 employees worldwide, they specialize in back-end semiconductor equipment, services, and PCB test solutions. With a strong global presence spanning R&D, manufacturing, sales, and support operations across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, the company is committed to delivering innovative technologies, exceptional quality, and sustainable value for its customers.

Position Summary:

The Head of Mechanical Engineering leads the strategy and development of mechanical systems for semiconductor test handler platforms. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role oversees high-precision mechanical design, including motion systems and thermal control, ensuring product reliability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. The role works closely with cross-functional teams to support NPI, production ramp-up, and continuous improvement initiatives while leading and developing a high-performing engineering team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Mechanical Engineering team supporting semiconductor test handler platforms.
  • Define and execute the mechanical engineering roadmap aligned with business and product strategies.
  • Oversee mechanical design of precision motion systems, thermal control systems, structural frames, and high-accuracy mechanisms.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive engineering risk management including DFMEA, PFMEA, tolerance analysis, and design reviews.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure DFM, DFA, and cost-effective product designs.
  • Lead root cause analysis (8D) and drive improvements in MTBF, uptime, yield, and serviceability.
  • Work cross-functionally with Electrical, Software, Test, and Applications teams to deliver integrated systems.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, and cost optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with SEMI, CE, ISO standards and enforce engineering change management and configuration control.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10–15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in semiconductor equipment or complex automation systems, preferably test handlers.
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong expertise in precision mechanisms, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), thermal and vibration considerations, and motion systems including pneumatics, motors, actuators, and bearings.
  • Experience in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA / PFMEA), New Product Introduction (NPI), product lifecycle management, and engineering change control.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools with strong technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mindset.
