ROLE OVERVIEW
The Visual Merchandiser is a commercial and creative leader responsible for driving revenue through strategic visual presentation across all TudungPeople retail stores. This role translates brand identity into high-impact retail environments that inspire customers, optimize space productivity, and maximize sales performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Store Performance & Sales Optimization
Priority: Core Outcome
- Partner with Retail and Sales teams to analyze store performance data and identify revenue-driving opportunities through visual presentation
- Use sales, conversion, and traffic data to optimize layouts, product placement, and in-store storytelling
- Analyze sales by zone/fixture to optimize high-traffic areas and bestseller placement
- Proactively drive sell-through of slow-moving or focus lines through commercial VM action plans
- Identify aging stock and create promotional displays to improve STR (sell-through rate)
- Lead high-impact VM execution during peak trading periods (Ramadan, Raya, Year-End)
- Provide weekly feedback on what's working/not working in each store layout
- Recommend changes to improve conversion rates, units per transaction (UPT), and average transaction value (ATV
2. Visual Merchandising Strategy & Planning
- Develop annual VM strategy aligned with brand positioning and commercial objectives
- Customize VM direction based on store format, size, location
- Plan and manage annual VM calendar, including seasonal themes, product launches, and campaign rollouts
- Optimize store layouts to improve visibility, customer flow, and space productivity
- Create visual merchandising guidelines for each store based on space, traffic patterns, and customer behavior
- Plan and execute seasonal VM refreshes (Ramadan, Eid, Raya collections, year-end)
3. Campaign Execution & Rollout
- Lead monthly campaign rollout in alignment with marketing calendar and sales targets
- Execute in-store visual campaigns for new collection launches
- Develop clear campaign briefs, styling guides, and execution checklists for all stores
- Ensure timely and consistent implementation across all locations
- Coordinate VM rollout timelines across multiple store locations
- Collaborate with Marketing team to ensure campaign themes translate seamlessly from digital to physical retail
- Review campaign effectiveness and refine execution for future improvements
- Create in-store signage, POS materials, and promotional displays
4. Product Presentation & Styling
- Style mannequins and product displays to showcase TudungPeople's modest fashion pieces in aspirational, relatable ways
- Create outfit coordination and styling suggestions that encourage multiple-item purchases (increase UPT)
- Ensure proper folding, hanging, and presentation standards are maintained across all touchpoints
- Design and execute window displays, in-store layouts, and product placements that align with TudungPeople's brand aesthetic
- Train store staff on commercial styling techniques and product storytelling.
5. Compliance, Audit & Standardization
- Conduct regular VM audits to ensure brand consistency and execution quality across all stores
- Provide structured feedback and corrective action plans to store teams
- Develop and maintain VM playbooks, checklists, and photo references for each store
- Standardize VM guidelines, execution frameworks, and best practices for scalability
- Ensure all VM execution meets operational and safety standards
- Brief part-time/seasonal staff on visual standards during peak periods
6. Cross-Functional Alignment
- Collaborate with Marketing to ensure cohesive in-store and online brand storytelling
- Align with Store Supervisors/Managers on sales priorities and customer experience strategy
- Coordinate with Production, Logistics, and Distribution Center to ensure display readiness and product availability
- Work closely with Retail Operations and Inventory teams to align VM with stock availability and campaign calendars
- Provide weekly VM reports with store visit notes, photos, and recommended actions
- Attend leadership meetings to share insights on customer behavior and in-store trends
- Communicate directly with marketing on strategic VM direction
7. Training & Capability Development
- Develop and deliver VM training programs for store teams
- Coach teams on commercial styling, display standards, and execution excellence
- Build VM champions within stores to sustain execution quality
- Train retail store teams on daily VM maintenance, restocking protocols, and brand standards
- Upskill team members to maintain high standards even during leadership transitions
8. Creative & Asset Development
- Conceptualize in-store visual elements and campaign POSM materials
- Oversee development and production of printable VM assets (signage, posters, display materials)
- Maintain centralized VM templates and asset library for operational efficiency
- Ensure all creative assets are brand-aligned and production-ready
- Assist in reviewing visual displays design that meet the store’s visual design requirements.
- Sourcing props, creative materials, accessories and contractors for displays.
9. New Store Openings & Renovations
- Lead VM planning for new store openings, including fixture selection, layout design, and initial merchandising
- Conduct post-opening reviews and adjust VM strategy based on early performance
- Develop opening checklists and setup timelines for seamless launches
- Ensure new stores are set up to commercial and brand standards from day one
10. Innovation & Future Development
- Monitor retail and VM trends locally and internationally to keep the brand competitive
- Introduce experiential and customer-engaging VM concepts that differentiate TudungPeople
- Pilot innovative display techniques, sustainable materials, or interactive elements
- Develop sustainable and reusable VM initiatives for long-term brand growth (e.g., reusable displays, eco-friendly materials)
