Job Description

Responsibilities

Job Description – Operating Theatre Manager

The Operating Theatre (OT) Manager reports to Director of FeM Surgery and Director of FeM Surgery Pte Ltd. The OT Manager is responsible for the overall coordination, efficiency, and safety of surgical operations within FeM Day Surgery.

This includes managing of staff, resources, surgical schedules, infection control standards, and ensuring high standards of patient care and staff performance across perioperative services.


Key Responsibilities:

Operations & Resource Management

• Oversee daily functioning of operating theatres, including scheduling and

room allocation.

• Ensure optimal use of resources, theatre time, and surgical instruments.

• Liaise with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing teams to ensure smooth

case flow.

• Ensure adequate staffing levels and allocate roles for each surgical list.

Staff Leadership & Development

• Lead, supervise, and support OT nurses, technicians, and support (admin)

staff.

• Facilitate recruitment, orientation, training, and competency assessments.

• Conduct regular staff appraisals and provide guidance on professional

development.

• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Patient Safety & Quality Assurance

• Ensure adherence to infection control, sterile techniques, and OT protocols.

• Monitor compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and MOH

guidelines.

• Conduct audits, risk assessments, and incident reviews to maintain quality

and safety.

• Drive quality improvement initiatives and perioperative best practices.

Administrative & Financial Oversight

• Manage OT inventory and ensure availability of surgical equipment and

consumables.

• Prepare and monitor budgets for theatre operations, staffing, and

procurement.

• Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and use of electronic medical

records (EMR).

Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as key liaison between surgical teams, hospitals, central sterile

services, and management.

• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and operating theatre utilisation

reviews if required.

• Lead projects involving expansion, renovation, or upgrading of Day Surgery

facilities.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse (Degree) with a valid practicing certificate

• Advanced Diploma or certification in Perioperative Nursing or equivalent

• Valid BCLS practicing certificate

Experience:

• Minimum 5–8 years of perioperative nursing experience, with at least 3 years

in a leadership role

Skills:

• Strong leadership, organisational, and crisis management skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

• Proficient in operating theatre workflows and standards (e.g. WHO Surgical

Safety Checklist)

• Familiarity with budgeting, rostering, and EMR systems

Desirable Attributes:

• Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management or Healthcare

Administration

• Experience with JCI accreditation, quality assurance, or project management

• Ability to work in high-pressure environments and respond to emergency

situations effectively
