A. What We Are Looking For
We are strengthening our compliance function from the ground up. We’re looking for a curious high performer who takes ownership, and someone who is excited to build processes instead of merely operating within inherited ones. The candidate is expected to translate regulatory requirements into commercial outcomes, work closely with business, finance, legal and risk to unlock new opportunities in a controlled manner, balancing risk vs growth.
Fintech is fast paced and pausing for perfection is unrealistic, as similar to payments happening real-time, the business must move forward and require positions taken. A candidate who cannot act until they have complete certainty is not what we’re looking for. What makes a candidate stand out is the ability to triage, assess what is known versus unknown, and make a defensible call on incomplete information is not a nice-to-have, but the job.
1. 3 to 5 years of compliance experience in a blue chip Fintech or licensed payment company, fintech, or BNM-regulated financial institution or consultancy firms who act for or advice such companies
2. Experience building or materially improving a compliance process or control, not just operating within one.
3. Ability to read a regulation and form a clear, reasoned compliance position — you will be expected to do this without being told what conclusion to reach. Working experience or knowledge in Malaysian laws in BFSI: Banking, Finance, Securities, and Insurance.
4. Able to act as a business partner by explaining compliance risks in practical and commercial terms and connect with a wide range of teams, including risk, legal, finance and business.
5. Experience working in regulated environments such as BNM, MAS, or equivalent, and technical knowledge in payments regulations, AML/CFT, safeguarding, and data privacy
B. Job Descriptions at a High Level
1. Own the core compliance registers and ensure they are accurate, current, and audit-ready always.
2. Horizon scanning on regulatory change management and remediation tracking, this includes domestic regulation or cross border regulation with extra territorial impact to Malaysia.
3. Translate identified obligations into relevant policies and drive enforcement of the same across all business verticals and represent the team in various work streams. Participate in product risk assessments.
4. Coordinate cross functionally and external auditors on certifications and translate any requirements internally in a coherent manner. Synthesise compliance challenges into clear, actionable next steps for the business and drive their implementation. You are expected to interpret, not compile or cite regulations.
5. You are comfortable working as an individual contributor, independent in a fast paced environment, able to address senior management and able to influence all levels of the organization.
6. Perform risk reviews across commercial domains such as high-risk verticals, products, and models, identifying control gaps, process efficiencies, and emerging risks.
7. Document and maintain commercial risk appetite statements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and risk appetite.
