Our client, a reputable metal commodities trading house, is seeking an experienced Operations Executive to support end-to-end operational execution for bulk commodity trades, primarily in coal and/or iron ore. The ideal candidate should have strong experience managing high-volume shipments and coordinating across trading, shipping, logistics, and documentation functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full trade lifecycle from contract execution to final settlement for bulk commodity shipments (coal and/or iron ore)
- Coordinate vessel nominations, shipment schedules, laycan management, and cargo movement with internal traders, suppliers, buyers, shipowners, brokers, and port agents
- Monitor and ensure timely execution of shipment operations, including loading/discharge activities, vessel turnaround, and demurrage/despatch management
- Prepare, review, and manage trade documentation including contracts, invoices, letters of credit, bills of lading, certificates, and customs/shipping documents
- Liaise closely with finance teams on invoicing, payment follow-ups, and settlement matters
- Track cargo positions, inventory movements, and shipment status to ensure operational efficiency and timely reporting
- Handle operational issues, discrepancies, claims, and exceptions proactively to minimize commercial and operational risk
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, trade regulations, internal controls, and risk management policies
- Maintain strong coordination with traders to provide operational support and market shipment updates
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, Business, Logistics, or related disciplines
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of relevant trade operations experience within commodities trading, shipping, or dry bulk logistics
- Proven operational experience handling bulk commodities, specifically coal and/or iron ore
- Prior experience working in medium to high shipment volume environments, such as commodity trading houses, shipping companies, mining firms, or bulk logistics operators
- Strong knowledge of dry bulk shipping operations, Incoterms, charter party terms, letters of credit, and trade documentation processes
- Familiarity with demurrage/despatch calculations, claims handling, and vessel operations is highly preferred
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and coordination capabilities in a fast-paced trading environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and commodity trading/ERP systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional regional stakeholders
