We’re Hiring: Data Scientist at ML Re!

Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad (ML Re) is advancing our analytics and data capabilities, and we’re looking for a Data Scientist with strong insurance domain knowledge to help drive our Data & AI roadmap.

This role will transform complex insurance data into insights, strengthen enterprise data governance, and support ML Re’s journey toward a fully data-driven operating model.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead ML Re’s Data & AI strategy, including defining the data operating model, architecture, and transformation roadmap.
• Analyze policyholder, claims, and underwriting data to uncover patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Build AI/ML models for risk assessment, fraud detection, customer lifetime value, and pricing optimization.
• Act as Operational Data Steward, driving enterprise data governance by institutionalizing data quality standards, data retention policies, and regulatory compliance (BNM, GDPR).
• Set up the data strategic pillars, framework, tools for data operational excellence, i.e. implementation of Power BI and/or Tableau and define the SLAs for operational excellence and guide team on meeting SLAs using data insights.
• Collaborate closely with actuaries, underwriters, IT and business stakeholders to embed analytics into decision-making processes.
• Lead the implementation of enterprise-wide data frameworks, including information architecture, data issue management, and data quality metrics.
• Build data literacy and capability across divisions, cultivates a network of data stewards/champions via the Data Community of Practice, and provides guidance and technical support on data standards, tools and analytical methods.

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Data Science, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years’ data science experience in insurance or financial services.
• Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience with ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, and TensorFlow.
• Strong understanding of underwriting, claims, reinsurance, and regulatory requirements.
• Certifications like CDMP, CIMP, CMDP, PMP, or HarvardX Data Science are an advantage.
