ABOUT THE ROLE: Senior Java Software Engineer (12-month renewable contract)

The Java Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Java-based

applications that support Maybank's business and IT objectives. Working closely with IT

managers, business analysts, and cross-functional project teams, this role delivers

scalable, high-quality software solutions that meet both technical standards and business

requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Application Development

• Design, code, and enhance Java applications using Spring Boot and relevant

frameworks.

• Follow established coding standards, best practices, and SDLC guidelines

throughout the development lifecycle.

• Develop and implement Microservices Architecture, RESTful APIs, and Web

Services.

Requirements Analysis & Solution Design

• Collaborate with IT managers, business analysts, and stakeholders to gather and

understand business requirements.

• Translate requirements into clear technical and functional specifications.

• Contribute to solution design and recommend appropriate coding approaches,

design patterns, and frameworks.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Prepare and execute unit and integration test cases.

• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects during development and testing phases.

• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency across the team.

Issue Resolution & Support

• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues in a timely manner.

• Collaborate with QA and operations teams to minimise disruption to business

systems.

• Provide technical support during and after deployment.

Project Planning & Estimation

• Assist in estimating development effort, timelines, and resource requirements.

• Support project scheduling and help prioritise workloads to meet delivery

deadlines.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for all developed applications and

modules.

• Share knowledge and best practices with team members to strengthen overall team

capability.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to optimise application performance, scalability, and code

maintainability.

• Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and development methodologies.

• Support integration, testing, and deployment processes to ensure smooth project

delivery.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software

Engineering, or a related field.

• 3–10 years of hands-on Java development experience (level commensurate with

experience).

• Strong proficiency in Java with mandatory experience in Spring Boot; knowledge of

Spring and Java EE is an advantage.• Hands-on experience with MongoDB, Oracle DB, and/or Microsoft SQL Server.

• Solid understanding of Microservices Architecture, RESTful APIs, JSON, and Web

Services.

• Familiar with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.

• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Experience in the banking or financial services industry is an advantage.

CERTIFICATIONS (Preferred)

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – Java SE or equivalent

• Spring Professional Certification

• Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) or equivalent Agile certification

• Cloud Platform Certification (AWS Certified Developer / Microsoft Azure Developer)
