Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend applications and RESTful microservices for banking platforms.
• Build and enhance core banking modules including payments processing, trade finance, lending, and account management.
• Integrate with internal and external banking systems including SWIFT, MAS payment rails (FAST, PayNow, MEPS+), and third-party APIs.
• Develop and maintain event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka or similar messaging platforms for high-throughput financial data processing.
• Work with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL) to design schemas, write optimised queries, and manage data migrations.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design sessions to ensure high standards of code quality and system reliability.
• Support SIT, UAT, and production deployment cycles; investigate and resolve production incidents and performance issues.
• Ensure all solutions adhere to banking security standards, MAS Technology Risk Management (TRM) guidelines, and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to maintain CI/CD pipelines and support deployment on cloud or on-premise infrastructure.
• Produce clear technical documentation including solution designs, API contracts, and deployment guides.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience (Java 8/11/17/21) with strong proficiency in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
• Solid experience in the banking or financial services domain — payments, trade finance, lending, custody, or core banking systems.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and working with microservices architecture in a distributed systems environment.
• Proficiency in relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL) — schema design, query optimisation, and stored procedures.
• Exposure to messaging and event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, or JMS.
• Familiarity with SWIFT messaging (MT/MX formats) or ISO 20022 migration is a strong advantage.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools — Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or PCF.
