Jobs Kreate is recruiting on behalf of a client for a shipboard Lighting Technician position. The successful candidate will set up, operate and maintain lighting systems for onboard entertainment venues, performances and special events.

Important: Cruise ship grading may differ from land-based organisational structures. Candidates may be offered a position one or two ranks below their current land-based role, subject to the cruise line’s assessment and operational requirements.

• Open to Malaysian and Singaporean citizens only.

• This is a full-time position. Part-time applications will not be considered.

• Proven experience operating professional lighting equipment and DMX control systems.

• Advanced wiring and technical troubleshooting skills are required.

• Able to operate MARTIN M1, grandMA or similar lighting consoles.

• Familiar with LED and automated lighting fixtures, fog machines, laser emitters, spotlights and strobes.

• Previous shipboard experience is preferred.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theatre is preferred. Relevant training in audio electronics may be considered in place of a degree.

• Able to use basic machinery, hand tools and technical equipment safely.

• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders, scaffolding and theatre catwalks.

• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.

• Strong administrative skills with proficiency in databases, spreadsheets and word-processing systems.

• Able to work independently, remain flexible and perform effectively under pressure.

• Guest-focused and service-oriented with a professional appearance and high personal hygiene standards.

Salary

• Salary: USD 2,500

• Contract duration: 6 months

• Rig, circuit and focus lighting equipment for assigned performances.

• Programme lighting consoles during technical rehearsals.

• Conduct fixture and circuit checks before each performance.

• Operate manual and computer-controlled lighting systems during shows.

• Maintain the original lighting design and performance quality throughout each show run.

• Operate follow spots when required.

• Prepare and maintain accurate show reports for each performance.

• Coordinate clearly with the Stage Manager and other onboard departments.

• Support special events and assist with basic sound requirements when assigned.

• Inspect overhead rigging and entertainment venue equipment.

• Perform minor to moderate repairs and maintain the lighting equipment inventory.

• Maintain clean, organised and safe lighting work areas.

• Attend rehearsals, show set-ups, performance calls and technical meetings on time.

• Follow all onboard public health, environmental, safety, security and emergency procedures.
