Job Description

Requirements

  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing ingredients according to established recipes and standards.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment by performing regular dishwashing, pot washing, and general cleaning of all kitchen surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation regulations, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of food items to prevent contamination.
  • Support kitchen operations by assisting with the receiving, stocking, and inventory management of food supplies, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and reporting any discrepancies or low stock levels.
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen team members, communicating clearly and offering assistance where needed to ensure smooth workflow and timely service delivery.
  • Perform other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn new tasks.
  • Must possess a Secondary School Certificate (SPM) or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of previous experience working in a similar kitchen helper or commis chef role is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and cooks in basic food preparation tasks, such as chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and portioning food items according to recipes and standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, and ensuring all work surfaces, equipment, and storage areas are sanitized.
  • Receive and store food and beverage supplies, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO - First-In, First-Out) and monitoring inventory levels to report any shortages or discrepancies.
  • Support the kitchen team by performing general cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash bins, and maintaining the overall hygiene of the kitchen environment.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper handling, storage, and cooking of food, to ensure a safe and healthy dining experience for customers.
  • Collaborate effectively with kitchen staff, communicating clearly and assisting colleagues as needed to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations during busy service periods.
  • Prepare and set up workstations for cooking, ensuring all necessary equipment and ingredients are readily available before meal preparation begins.
