Azure Cloud Engineer (DevOps, AI)

• Working Hours: Mon-Fri (Hybrid)
• Remuneration: Up to $9,000 + AWS
• Employment Type: Contract (1 year renewable with chances of conversion) 

 
 
Job Overview
We are seeking a Cloud DevOps Engineer to join a public sector technology team, driving cloud transformation, infrastructure automation, platform engineering, and AI enablement initiatives. This role will focus 70% on DevOps/Automation/Platform Engineering/AI & Security, and 30% on Cloud Infrastructure. The successful candidate will design, implement, and support cloud-native infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and enterprise cloud platforms, working closely with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams to improve operational efficiency, platform reliability, and service delivery.
 
Key Responsibilities
DevOps (70%)

• Design, develop, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including reusable modules and templates, and standardise deployments across environments
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate application and infrastructure deployments, improving release management and deployment reliability
• Integrate security and compliance controls into CI/CD workflows and support DevSecOps practices across the development lifecycle
• Support AI-enabled cloud platforms and enterprise AI initiatives, including designing infrastructure for AI workloads, integrating AI services/APIs, and participating in AI Proof-of-Concept (POC) and pilot implementations
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies, support AI governance/security/compliance requirements, and drive productivity improvements through AI-assisted automation
• Deploy and support containerised applications, manage Kubernetes-based platforms, and implement GitOps practices (e.g. ArgoCD)
• Implement monitoring and alerting solutions, develop operational dashboards, and perform performance tuning and capacity planning
• Manage secrets and credentials securely, support vulnerability scanning and remediation, and implement IM8 compliance requirements

Infrastructure Engineering (30%)

• Design, deploy, and support Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Storage, and Platform Services
• Support Azure Landing Zone implementations and cloud governance; optimise cloud resource utilisation, availability, and performance
• Administer Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory environments, including Hybrid Identity, SSO, and MFA support
• Support Windows Server infrastructure, Azure backup/restoration, and disaster recovery operations
• Troubleshoot Azure firewall, routing, and connectivity issues, including cloud-to-on-premises connectivity
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities, and conduct root cause analysis for critical incidents

 
Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud engineering
• Proficiency in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of enterprise infrastructure and operational requirements
• Comfortable troubleshooting production incidents with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to bridge infrastructure, security, DevOps, and AI initiatives
• Preferred: experience with Government Commercial Cloud (GCC), regulated environments, Palo Alto Firewalls, Azure Landing Zone, AWS, Azure Arc, and IM8 compliance
• Preferred certifications: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, CKA, or ITIL Foundation
