Job Summary
The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical mechanical systems within a data center. This role ensures the continuous availability, reliability, and efficiency of mechanical infrastructure that supports mission critical IT operations. The technician works closely with operations, engineering, and facility teams to maintain high uptime while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on critical mechanical equipment.
- Maintain HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC/CRAH units, pumps, piping systems, air handling units, and ventilation equipment.
- Respond promptly to mechanical failures, alarms, and emergency situations to minimize operational downtime.
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical equipment failures.
- Support planned maintenance activities and coordinate with contractors and vendors during servicing and repairs.
- Perform equipment start-up, shutdown, and operational switching in accordance with Method operational procedures (MOPs).
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and equipment logs using the checklist or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and data center operational standards.
- Willing to support maintenance activities across other disciplines, including building, fire protection, and electrical systems, within the scope of authorized work and competency level.
- Maintain housekeeping standards within mechanical plant rooms and equipment areas.
Required Qualifications
- Education qualification follows company’s policies.
- Knowledge & experience in HVAC systems. Advantage if also have knowledge in chilled water systems, pumps, valves, compressors, cooling towers, and mechanical utilities.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
- Candidates with an electrical competency certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga will have an added advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Highly knowledgeable related to maintenance of cooling towers, chillers & precision cooling system.
- HVAC systems maintenance, troubleshooting & repair.
- Skilled in the use of basic tools, including spanners, manifold gauges, cleaning and measuring devices.
- Computer literate, who can handle CMMS or digital reports.
- Basic knowledge of electrical and control systems related to mechanical equipment.
- Vendor management and contractor supervision experience.
- Familiar with standard industrial safety & health regulation.
