Responsibilities

• Oversee the overall technical performance and seaworthiness of assigned bulk carriers while ensuring compliance with class and statutory regulations.
• Plan and coordinate dry dockings, repairs, and preventive maintenance to minimise vessel downtime.
• Monitor vessel efficiency, fuel usage, and maintenance records using AMOS or similar planned maintenance systems.
• Review and approve technical budgets, procurement requests, and operational expenses for managed vessels.
• Work closely with classification societies, flag administrations, and port authorities to maintain valid vessel certifications.
• Carry out regular onboard inspections, focusing on cargo holds, hatch covers, and cargo handling equipment.
• Lead technical investigations into machinery breakdowns and operational incidents, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Develop strong partnerships with shipyards, equipment suppliers, and service providers to ensure cost effective and high quality support.
• Strengthen the Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the ISM Code, addressing bulk carrier operational risks such as cargo shifting, structural integrity, and cargo operations.
• Provide technical guidance to vessel crews and fellow superintendents on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs involving cargo gear and hatch cover systems.
  
  

Requirements

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience with bulk carriers, either sailing onboard or working as a Technical Superintendent.
• ️ Good knowledge of planned maintenance systems such as AMOS or ShipManager, with familiarity in ISM, ISPS, and MARPOL regulations.
• Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and organisational abilities.
• Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively under tight deadlines.
