About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, and modernise enterprise backend systems using Java (Spring Boot) and Python. You will build scalable microservices, backend APIs, internal platforms, and integration services that support business operations across the organisation.

As part of our engineering transformation, you'll also leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and enhance engineering productivity.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance backend applications using Java (Spring Boot) and Python.
• Develop scalable RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend services.
• Build internal platforms, middleware services, ETL pipelines, and integration solutions that improve business operations.
• Modernise legacy systems through refactoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, and system integration issues.
• Optimise application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

AI-Assisted Engineering

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve engineering productivity.
• Utilise AI for code generation, testing, debugging, documentation, and automation.
• Review AI-generated code to ensure quality, security, maintainability, and compliance with engineering standards.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of backend software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following will be an advantage:

• Python
• Docker and Kubernetes
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog)
• System integration, middleware, or ETL development
• AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot
