Role Description The Principal Engineer role at IByte Technology Solutions is a contract, on-site position based in Petaling Jaya. In this role, the Principal Engineer leads the technical direction of projects, designs and reviews complex architectures, and ensures that solutions align with business and customer requirements. Daily responsibilities include guiding engineering teams, conducting code and design reviews, setting technical standards and best practices, and resolving critical technical issues. The Principal Engineer collaborates closely with stakeholders, mentors engineers, and contributes to strategic planning and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Experience & Skills

10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including Type Script or a similar web stack language

Experience providing technical direction for critical, business-facing systems, across multiple teams

Microservices and event-driven architecture: service boundaries, async messaging, idempotency, ordering, and dead-letter handling

RDBMS and NoSQL data modelling, including schema design and query performance

API design and management, including REST and API gateway patterns

Observability grounded in Open Telemetry, plus familiarity with APM/dashboard tooling (Dyna trace, Grafana, or similar)

AuthN/AuthZ, least-privilege IAM, and secrets management fundamentals

Bonus: experience with Azure

Leadership

Works effectively across engineering, product, and architecture/security boundaries

Good judgement on when to own a problem and when to bring in others to collaborate on it

Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical audiences alike

Builds trust through technical credibility, not authority
