Are you passionate about transforming subsurface data into actionable insights that drive exploration and production performance?

TotalEnergies EP Malaysia is seeking an experienced Subsurface Data Scientist to support the management, analysis, and integration of subsurface data across our upstream portfolio. In this role, you will work at the intersection of geoscience, data management, and digital technologies, enabling high-quality data delivery, efficient workflows, and data-driven decision-making for subsurface teams.

Your Impact

As a key member of the Subsurface team, you will:

• Serve as the focal point for subsurface data and application support, ensuring accurate loading and management of data and documents within central repositories and business applications.
• Support the collection, organisation, quality control, and governance of subsurface datasets, including seismic, well, and reservoir data.
• Develop, maintain, and optimise geoscience data models and databases to improve accessibility, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with geoscientists and subsurface professionals to analyse and interpret data using statistical and exploratory data analysis techniques.
• Generate reports, dashboards, and visualisations that support technical evaluations and business decision-making.
• Contribute to workflow improvements, data security, compliance, and best-practice data management across subsurface operations.

What We Are Looking For

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in geoscience or subsurface data management within the upstream oil and gas industry.
• Strong understanding of upstream data types, data management processes, enterprise systems, and geoscience applications in Windows and Linux environments.
• Practical experience with analytical and visualisation platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire, DSS, or Alteryx.
• Strong database, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with fluency in English. Knowledge of Bahasa Malaysia or French is an advantage.
