About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and support our software engineering team in Malaysia while serving as the primary technical bridge between our Japan-based management, project teams, and local engineers.

This is a senior technical management role that combines engineering leadership, project coordination, and strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered efficiently while balancing technical excellence, client expectations, and business priorities.

The ideal candidate is proactive, capable of making sound independent decisions, and comfortable working in a multicultural environment with Japanese management.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

• Communicate closely with the Japan-based management and project teams.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to local engineers, helping them resolve technical challenges and make sound engineering decisions.
• Independently assess issues, distinguish urgent matters from routine operational matters, and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Identify issues requiring consultation with the Board or senior management, and escalate them with clear analysis, risk assessment, and recommended actions.
• Understand clients' objectives, concerns, and expectations, and translate them into actionable tasks and priorities for the engineering team.
• Plan, allocate, and coordinate engineering tasks based on technical complexity, urgency, resource availability, and client expectations.
• Foster effective communication and collaboration between the Japan and Malaysia teams.
• Understand Japanese management and communication culture while working effectively in an international environment.
• Take ownership of projects and drive initiatives forward with minimal supervision.
• Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, software quality, and team performance.

Requirements:

1) Education

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

2) Experience

• 10–15 years of experience in software engineering or a related technical field.
• Proven experience leading software engineering teams and managing multiple software development projects.
• Experience working with Japanese companies and/or multinational or foreign-owned companies is preferred.

3) Technical Skills

• Strong software engineering background with hands-on development experience.
• Good understanding of software architecture, system design, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and make sound engineering decisions.

4) Communication Skills

• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Japanese language proficiency is not required.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

5) Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Japanese business culture and management practices.
• Experience leading multicultural teams and working in client-facing environments.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

**Salary commensurate with experience, skills, and overall capabilities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: RM5,000.00 - RM10,000.00 per month
